Rain falling on Tohoku
Rain is falling on parts of Tohoku today. If you live in Tohoku, did you go out in the rain? If you are conscientious, probably not. US News & World Reports tells us that the key to a long life is having conscientious habits. Buckle your seat belt, drive safely, don't smoke and stay out of the nuclear rain.
Who ever thought something like this would happen in Japan? Anybody who saw past nuclear errors in Japan. Will Japan learn from this and move away from nuclear energy? I hope but am doubtful. Will Japan stop being secretive about nuclear errors and the power industry? I hope but am doubtful. Will the Japanese government get better at regulating the nuclear power industry? Probably, but will the government get good enough to prevent future problems? I hope but am doubtful. Will the Japanese people rise up in protest and change things? I hope but am doubtful.
I hope but am doubtful.

Radiation: Fukushima Prefecture and India
You have probably been watching the news and the radiation count in Fukushima Prefecture. Did you see the radiation count for Chennai, Kerala, India
? This article from Bloomberg says it is 3.42
microsieverts an hour. This comes from natural sources, not human errors. That probably does not make anybody in Fukushima Prefecture feel better. Professor Shunichi
Yamashita, who teaches at Nagasaki University, says everyone outside the evacuation zone is as safe as anyone in London. We hope he was referring to safety regarding radiation, not terrorist attacks or other problems.
The Day After
Hello,
The Day After was a disturbing 1983 movie about what happened after a nuclear holocaust. The movie took place in a small town in eastern Kansas. I didn't see the movie; I try to avoid such unhappy movies. The actors starring in the movie include Steve Guttenberg, better known for his comic work in the Police Academy movie series.
When I think about power accidents at nuclear reactors, nothing comes immediately to mind where a meltdown resulted in death and devastation. I googled and could find movies about nuclear reactor accidents, but nothing that resulted in millions dead and devastation that could make Chernobyl look like a mere scratch.
I am not sure why we have so many movies that show the aftermath of nuclear war, but none that show the aftermath of a worse case scenario at a nuclear power plant.
Best,
Tom

My heart goes out to the evacuees
My heart goes out to the evacuees from near the nuclear power plants. Earthquakes are horrible things. Tidal waves are horrible things. I wish we did not have them.
Still, life goes on for the living. But a nuclear disaster is even worse.
The living fear diseases from the radiation. Some of the living cannot go home.
My heart goes out to these people the most. Of course, my heart goes out to everyone suffering, but I think the most of the evacuees from near the nuclear power plants.

Zag
Tom
