動詞によっては、自動詞にも他動詞にもなる 。
自動詞は目的語がないから一般には受動態にできない。
自動詞の後に続くのは目的語ではないから、前置詞で補足される。
His efforts resulted in success.
I can't reach the book. 他動詞：その本に手が届かない。
I can reach for the book. 自動詞：その本に手を伸ばす事はできる。
result は自動詞なので was resulted のような受け身にはならない。
