本日 (令和4年 [2022年] 11月27日 [日曜日]) で終了した大相撲九州場所で、活躍した力士の一人が平戸海 (ひらどうみ) 関 (西前頭16枚目; 境川 [さかいがわ] 部屋) です。
One of the rikishi who did well in the Ozumo Kyusyu Basho (大相撲九州場所: also known as November Basho) that ended today (Sunday, November 27, Reiwa 4 [2022]) was Hiradoumi (平戸海関) (west maegashira 16 [西前頭16枚目]; Sakaigawa Stable [境川部屋]).
平戸海関はこの九州場所が幕内になってから二場所目でした。先場所 (九月場所) では、西前頭16枚目の番付で7勝8敗の成績だったので、十両に落ちてしまう可能性もありましたが、運よく番付は据え置かれました。
This Kyusyu Basho was Hiradoumi's second basho as a makunouchi rikishi (幕内力士: rikishi in the highest-ranked division in ozumo). In the September Basho, his score was 7 wins and 8 losses at the rank of west maegashira 16 (西前頭16枚目). This score could have caused him to be demoted to the juryo division (十両: the lower-ranked division for sekitori [関取: salaried rikishi]), but his rank fortunately stayed the same.
この九州場所では平戸海関は10勝5敗という優れた成績でした。平戸海関は長崎県出身なので、九州場所はご当所の場所でした。その地元のファンの応援の下で上記の成績を挙げたのですから、ご本人も嬉しかったことと想像します。
In this Kyusyu Basho (九州場所), Hiradoumi's score was a credible one with 10 wins and 5 losses. The basho was done in his home turf because Hiradoumi is from Nagasaki Prefecture (長崎県), one of Kyushu's prefectures. I suppose he was happy that he did well in the basho with the support of fans from Kyusyu.
私は平戸海関は三賞 (殊勲賞、敢闘賞、技能賞) のどれかを受賞する資格があると思いましたが、残念ながら受賞はしませんでした。
I thought Hiradoumi deserved one of the sansho ("Three Prizes"), but he did not win any of them.

I root for Saigawa Stable (境川部屋), a good old sumo stable known for rigorous practice and strict discipline, and Hiradoumi (平戸海), one of the stable's sekitori (関取: salaried rikishi). I hope Hiradoumi will keep trying hard and aim for a higher rank.
