Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has threatened to attack Europe in revenge for Nato's operations in Libya.
Col Gaddafi said Libya would target European "homes, offices, families" unless Nato stopped its campaign.
He spoke via an audio message broadcast to tens of thousands of supporters gathered in a central Tripoli square.
His message comes after France confirmed it had supplied weapons to anti-government rebels, delivering arms to Berber tribal fighters near Tripoli.
In the broadcast, played via loudspeakers to gathered crowds in the capital's Green Square, he called on supporters to "march on the western mountains", the area where the weapons had been delivered.
'Like locusts'
Then he warned Europe that Libyans would seek revenge.
"These people [the Libyans] are able to one day take this battle [...] to Europe, to target your homes, offices, families, which would become legitimate military targets, like you have targeted our homes," he said.
"If we decide to, we are able to move to Europe like locusts, like bees. We advise you to retreat before you are dealt a disaster," he added.
His message come just days after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Col Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam and Libyan intelligence chief Abdullah al-Sanoussi for crimes against humanity.
International prosecutors allege government troops fired on civilian protesters during anti-Gaddafi street demonstrations earlier this year.
Friday's rally was one of the largest in recent times, says the BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes, in Tripoli, and the message was the first time that Col Gaddafi had been heard of in weeks.
News that the sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn was teetering electrified French political circles, with his allies talking of him making a swift political comeback and possibly playing a role in next year's presidential elections.
Reporting from Paris—
The news that the sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn was teetering took French political circles by storm Friday, with some political allies talking of him making a swift political comeback.
Strauss, released on his own recognizance but still facing charges, had been widely seen as a leading Socialist Party presidential candidate in next year's elections until the allegations that he had assaulted a Manhattan hotel maid forced him to resign as chief of the International Monetary Fund.
Socialist member of Parliament Jean-Marie Le Guen said it was "the end of the nightmare" for Strauss-Kahn and predicted that he would now "be present in the presidential campaign."
Martine Aubry, head of the French Socialist party, spoke of her "immense joy" following reports that the case against him was falling apart.
"I hope American justice will establish the whole truth and save Dominique from this nightmare," she told journalists.
On Tuesday the Socialist party began the run-up to primaries in October to decide on a candidate for May's presidential election. Aubry, who had previously agreed not to run in a secret pact with Strauss-Kahn to allow him to run, had announced her candidacy.
Another Socialist minister, Michèle Sabban, called on the party to delay the primary process.
"If Dominique Strauss-Kahn is cleared, I ask the Socialist party to suspend the primary process," she told journalists on Friday.
Former Socialist Culture Minister Jack Lang, who had been criticized for his unwavering support of Strauss-Kahn, said he was "happy" because his belief in the notion of "innocent until proven guilty" had been confirmed.
"He could still play a major role in France, without being a candidate. This would give [us] an extra chance for victory," Lang said.
Philippe Goulliaud of Le Figaro newspaper said the Socialist Party was now in a difficult position.
"Already DSK supporters had turned the page and decided things had been settled. Now the Strauss-Kahnians are saying his return is possible," he said.
"It is difficult to know if it's possible or to know what DSK wants. Having seen images of this man tied and handcuffed he might be like the Count of Monte Cristo and want to have revenge on those who have sullied his name."

The hotel maid who accused former IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault admitted that she lied to a grand jury about the events surrounding the alleged attack, according to a letter sent from prosecutors to Strauss-Kahn's defense team.
The 32-year-old woman from Guinea accused Strauss-Kahn of chasing her through his luxury suite in May, trying to pull down her pantyhose and forcing her to perform oral sex.
Strauss-Kahn's semen was found on the woman's dress and she reported the alleged assault, but not as quickly as first thought. In a letter dated June 30, prosecutors that she admitted that she cleaned another room following the encounter with the French politician and then returned to Strauss-Kahn's room and cleaned that as well, contradicting what she told the grand jury.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn freed from house arrest
DSK's political life revived amid case stunner?
It was just the latest revelation that has damaged her credibility and undermined the prosecution of Strauss-Kahn. In light of the new questions surrounding the case, a New York judge granted Strauss-Kahn's release from house arrest, though the charges have not been dismissed.
From the beginning, Strauss-Kahn's attorneys have claimed to have the hotel encounter wasn't forcible, and that they have unreleased information that could "gravely undermine the credibility" of the housekeeper. The defense was using private investigators to aggressively check out the victim's background and her story, but the New York Times reported that it was investigators for the prosecution who uncovered discrepancies.
Among the other revelations revealed in the prosecutor's letter to the defense team:
- The woman's asylum application described how she and her husband were persecuted and beaten by regime forces in Guinea. She claimed her husband was imprisoned, tortured and subsequently died at the hands of police. The woman later admitted to prosecutors that her account was false and that she had been coached by another man to create the fictional account for the purposes of the application.
- The woman twice relayed to investigators emotional accounts of how she was gang-raped in Guinea. She later said those accounts were false and were similarly used for the asylum application process. However, she did still claim that she was a rape victim, though the details did not match her original story.
- The woman admitted to using a friend's child to fraudulently claim an additional dependent and increase her tax refund. She also misrepresented her income to maintain her housing.
Additionally, the New York Times, citing unnamed law enforcement officials, reported that:
- In the day following her accusations against Strauss-Kahn, the woman had a phone conversation with a man imprisoned and charged with possession of 400 pounds of marijuana. In the conversation, which was recorded, she spoke about possible benefits of pursuing the case, two officials told the paper.
- Investigators discovered the imprisoned man was one of several people who deposited around $100,000 in cash in the woman's bank account over the last two years. The deposits were made from around the country - in Arizona, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania. The woman claimed to know nothing about the deposits, saying they were made by her fiancé and his friends.
- The woman was also paying phone bills to five different companies, though she told investigators that she owned just one phone.
The accuser's attorney, Ken Thompson, fired back outside court and said she went to the district attorney with information that her application was flawed because she was concerned she otherwise would be sent back to Guinea.
"It is clear that this woman made some mistakes, but that doesn't mean she's not a rape victim," he said.
He said she came to the U.S. because she was a victim of genital mutilation and worried that her daughter, now 15, would be victimized as well. He also said she had been raped by soldiers there, but not as it was written in her asylum application.

He also laid out details she described of an attack by Strauss-Kahn in the Sofitel suite and said her account has remained consistent.
"From day one has described a violent sexual assault that Dominique Strauss-Kahn committed against her," attorney Ken Thompson said.
Thompson took a throng of reporters outside court through the details of the incident from his client's perspective, saying Strauss-Kahn bruised her genitals, tore a ligament in her shoulder and ripped her stockings.
"She has described that sexual assault many times, to prosecutors and to me, and she has never once changed a single thing about that encounter," he said.
He also addressed media reports that his client was involved with a drug dealer, calling them lies.

Several weeks before police found the skeletal remains of two-year-old Caylee Anthony, the toddler’s grandfather told his alleged mistress that Caylee’s death was “an accident that snowballed out of control,” the alleged mistress testified on Thursday.
The testimony came on the 13th and final day of the defense case in the month-long murder trial of Casey Anthony, the Florida mother accused of killing her daughter.
Shortly after that testimony the defense rested after announcing that Ms. Anthony would not take the stand.
The alleged mistress, Krystal Holloway, who volunteered to help search for Caylee, said she and George Anthony – Casey’s father and Caylee’s grandfather – had an intimate relationship in 2008.
IN PICTURES: Key players in the Casey Anthony trial
She said she was surprised when Mr. Anthony made the statement concerning an accident. At the time, George and his wife, Cindy, were leading a national effort and making media appearances based on an assumption that Caylee had been kidnapped and was still alive.
Ms. Holloway said George Anthony’s comment was made during a quiet conversation at her home around Thanksgiving 2008. “We were talking about his daughter and I mentioned that I didn’t think he could raise somebody that was capable of harming her child,” Ms. Holloway told the jury. “That’s when he said it was an accident that snowballed out of control.”
She said the comment shocked her. “I was caught off guard by it, and when I looked up he had tears in his eyes,” she said.
In an effort to verify the relationship, Defense Attorney Jose Baez introduced as evidence a copy of a text message apparently sent by George Anthony to Holloway. It said: “Just thinking about you. I need you in my life.”
The message was sent on Dec. 16, five days after Caylee’s remains were found in the wooded area.
In testimony on Tuesday, George Anthony repeatedly denied ever having an affair with Holloway. In addition he denied making any statement about Caylee’s death.
“Did you tell Krystal Holloway that Caylee’s death is an accident that snowballed out of control,” Defense Attorney Baez asked George Anthony on Tuesday.
“That conversation was never there. I never confided in any volunteers,” he said.
“You never told Krystal Holloway while the two of you were being romantic that this was an accident that snowballed out of control,” Mr. Baez asked.
Casey Antony is charged with first-degree murder in the death her daughter, Caylee. Prosecutors say the mother drugged her daughter with chloroform and then pressed duct tape over her nose and mouth and suffocated her on June 16, 2008. They say Casey hid the body in the trunk of her car for several days before dumping it in a wooded area a quarter-mile from the family home. The remains were discovered on Dec. 11, 2008.
Casey Anthony’s lawyers maintain that the child accidentally drowned in the family’s swimming pool. They say both George and Casey Anthony found the body and tried to cover up the death.
George Anthony has denied any knowledge of how his granddaughter died and says he played no role in the disposal of her body.
Also on Thursday, members of the Anthony family were asked if they followed a certain routine when burying family pets that had died.
Cindy Anthony testified that the family had a special place in the backyard where deceased dogs and cats are interred. She said generally the animal was buried with a favored blanket or toy, and then placed in a garbage bag sealed with tape.
Investigators found Caylee’s skeletal remains partly in a cloth laundry bag and two plastic garbage bags. They also recovered a Winnie the Pooh blanket and pieces of duct tape.
George Anthony denied any knowledge of how the pets were buried. He also denied any knowledge of pieces of duct tape used to hold up posters at a command center for the Caylee search.
The duct tape at the command center was the same distinctive brand of duct tape that investigators found with Caylee’s remains.
“When you found out that your granddaughter was found with a blanket in plastic bags and with duct tape, did you tell law enforcement that that is the way you used to bury your pets,” Baez asked.
Assistant State Attorney Jeffrey Ashton immediately objected. The judge sustained the objection.
Ashton began his cross-examination. “Mr. Anthony, have you ever taken a dead pet and thrown it in a swamp,” he asked.
“No,” he replied.
After Cindy Anthony testified about how various pets had been buried, Assistant State Attorney Linda Burdick began her own cross-examination.
“I take it you did not euthanize your own pets with chloroform,” she asked.
“No, I did not,” Cindy Anthony said.
And did you put duct tape on any of the animals’ faces, she asked.
“No.”
“This is something your family did for years that your children were aware of,” Burdick asked.
Cindy Anthony replied that George had positioned a dog made of stone in the back yard that marked the graves.
“Was Casey present when the dogs were buried,” the prosecutor asked.
Cindy was not sure for two of the animals, but believes she was present for the burial of at least one.
“By the time [Casey] was a senior in high school, she was aware of the burial and method of burial in the yard,” the prosecutor asked.
“Yes, ma’am,” Cindy said.
