今日ご紹介するのはキンクスでは珍しいR&Bからインスパイアされたキンキーブルース。
まるで童謡の様に親しみやすいナンバーです。

このヴィレッジグリーン〜のアルバムは時代の変化の中で取り残されたものをテーマに時間をかけて作られたキンクスの代表的な名盤ですと散々書いて来ました。
この曲もテーマに沿った内容となっています。
しかし、この“最後の蒸気機関車”は気が狂いそうになりながらも、最後まで、死ぬまで走り続けると宣言しています。
キンクスは売れなくても、時代遅れと言われても、死ぬまで続けると言う宣言とも取れます。
brigadeは直訳すると旅団となりますが、キンクスであると言う事で旅一座と訳しました。
昨今の報道で、修復不可能と言われた実弟デイブとも仲を取り持って再結成の話しも出ています。
ある意味、レイディビスこそあの夢の様な1960年代ブリティッシュビート勢の中で、最もアイディアの尽きない、多彩な作曲家だったと改めて思います。
