`The sleeping cat` of the famous Nikko Toshogu has a sparrow on its reverse side to show the belief that ` If the cat is up the sparrow will be eaten by the cat, but they can coexist peacefully if they choose which is why the cat can sleep`.
Cats basking leisurely in the sun can be said to be symbols of "the wishes of God" who hope for peace in the world.
