Just as in the legend that `The ear of rice came by a big, flying bird`, so there's the story of a big bird (Eagle) that was given an ear of rice from Heaven.
Therefore it's a messenger of the gods and is considered to have a deep relationship with Amenohohi and his child Amenohinatori.
Amenohohi is the god who was born at the time of Amaterasu and Susanoo's oath and is the god of agriculture.
