The story of THE FIRST CHRISTMAS continued... 
... in the Gospel of Matthew 
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem village, Judah territory (this was during Herod's kingship) a band of scholars arrived in Jerusalem (in the country of Israel) from the East.
They asked around...
"Where can we find and pay homage to the newborn King of the Jewish people? We observed a star in the eastern sky that signaled his birth. We're on pilgrimage (traveling) to worship him."
When word of their inquiry got to Herod, he was terrified - and not Herod alone, but most of Jerusalem as well. Herod lost NO time! He gathered all the high priests and religion scholars in the city together and asked,
"Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?" 
新約聖書のマタイ書から続きを読みますが。。。そのごろ、天文学者たちが、東の国からはるばるエルサレム（イスラエルの京）へやって来て、こう訪ねました。
「このたびお生まれになったユダヤ人の王様は、どこにおられますか？私たちは、その方の星をはるか東の国で見たので、その方を拝むために参ったのです。」
それを聞いたヘロデ大王は、ひどくうろたえ、エルサレム中がそのうわさでもちきりになりました。大王はさっそくユダヤ人の宗教的指尊者たちを召集し、
「預言者どもは、メシヤ（救い主）が何処で生まれると告げているのか」と尋ねました。
They told him,
"Bethlehem, Judah territory. The prophet Micah wrote it plainly.
It's you, Bethlehem, in Judah's land,
no longer bringing up the rear.
From you will come the leader
who will shepherd-rule my people, Israel." 
Herod then arranged a secret meeting with the scholars from the East. Pretending to be as devout as they were, he got them to tell him exactly when the birth-announcement star appeared. Then he told them the prophecy about Bethlehem, and said...
"Go find this child!
Leave NO stone unturned!
As SOON as you find him, send word and I'll join you at once in your worship."
彼らは答えました。
「ユダヤのベツレヘムです。（旧約聖書の）預言者ミカがこう書いております。
小さな町ベツレヘムよ。
おまえはユダヤの中でも決してただのつまらない町ではない。
おまえから偉大な支配者が出て、
わたしの国民イスラエルを治めるようになるからだ。」
それでヘロデは、ひそかに天文学者たちを呼びにやり、例の星が初めて現れた正確な時刻を聞き出しました。そして彼らに、
「さあ、ベツレヘムへ行って、その子を探すがいい。
見つかったら、必ず知らせてくれ。
わしも、是非その方を拝みに行きたいから」と命じました。
Instructed by the king, they set off.
Then the star appeared again, the same star they had seen in the eastern skies!! 
It led them on until it hovered (settled) over the place of the child. They could hardly contain themselves. They were in the right place! They had arrived at the right time!
彼らが早速出発すると、なんと、あの星がまた現れて、彼らをベツレヘムに案内して、とある家の上にとどまったではありませんか。それを見た彼らは、躍り上がって喜びました。
They entered the house and saw the child in the arms of Mary, his mother. Overcome, they kneeled and worshiped him. Then they opened their luggage (The Japanese version says treasure box)and presented gifts: gold, frankincense, myrrh.
In a dream they were warned not to report back to Herod. So they worked out another route, left the territory without being seen, and returned to their own country.
その家に入ると、幼子と母マリヤがおられました。彼らはひれ伏して、その幼子を拝みました。 
そして、宝の箱を開け、金と乳香（香科の一種）ともつやく（天然ゴムの樹脂で、古代の貴重な防腐剤）を贈り物としてささげました。それから、ヘロデ大王に報告するためにエルサレムへは戻らず、そのまま、自分たちの国へ帰って行きました。神が夢の中で、他の道を通って帰るように警告されたからです。
After the scholars were gone, God's angel showed up again in Joseph's dream and commanded,
"Get up!!
Take the child and his mother and flee (run away!) to Egypt.
Stay until further notice.
Herod is on the hunt for this child, and wants to kill him."
彼らが帰った後、主の御使いが夢でヨセフに現れて言いました。
起きなさい！
幼子とその母を連れて、エジプトに逃げるのです。
そして、帰れと言うまで、ずっとそこにいなさい。
ヘロデがこの子を殺そうとしています。
Joseph obeyed. He got up, took the child and his mother under cover of darkness. They were out of town and well on their way by daylight. They lived in Egypt until Herod's death. This Egyptian exile (living while hiding) fulfilled what the Old Testament prophet Hosea had preached: "I called my son out of Egypt." (Hosea 11:1 - more about this later) 
ヨセフは、マリヤと幼子を連れて、その夜の内にエジプトへ旅立ちました。そして、ヘロデ大王が死ぬまで、そこに住んでいました。こうして、「わたしは、わたしの子をエジプトから呼び出した」という預言者の言葉が実現することになったのです。（ホセア１１：１ 旧約聖書）
Herod, when he realized that the scholars had tricked him, flew into a rage. He commanded the murder of every little boy two years old and under who lived in Bethlehem and its surrounding hills. He determined that age from information he'd gotten from the scholars. That's when Old Testament prophet Jeremiah's words were fulfilled. (Jeremiah 31:15 - read below)
ヘロデは、天文学者たちにだまされたとわかると、怒り狂い、すぐさま、ベツレヘムに兵隊をやって、町とその近辺に住む２歳以下の男の子を一人残らず殺せ、と命じました。
というのは、学者たちが、その星は二年前に現れたと言っていたからです。ヘロデのこの残忍な行為によって、エレミヤの預言が実現しました。 （エレミヤ３１：１５ 旧約聖書）
Later, when Herod died, God's angel appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, 
"Up, take the child and his mother and return to Israel. All those out to murder the child are dead."
Joseph obeyed. He got up, took the child and his mother, and reentered Israel. When he heard, though, that Archelaus had succeeded (followed) his father, Herod, as king in Judea, he was afraid to go there. But then Joseph was directed in a dream to go to the hills of Galilee. On arrival, he settled (to live) in the village of Nazareth. This move was also a fulfillment of the prophetic words, "He will be called a Nazarene."
Although there isn't a prophecy with those exact words, Isaiah 53:3-9 talks about the lowly position of Jesus on earth. Growing up in a tiny back-country town like Nazareth is a part of this.
ヘロデが死ぬと、エジプトに住むヨセフの夢に主の御使いが現れ、
「さあ、子供とその母を連れてイスラエルに帰りなさい。子供を殺そうとしていた者たちは死んだから」と言いました。
そこで、ヨセフは、イエスとマリヤを連れて、すぐイスラエルに帰りました。ところが、途中で、新しい王はヘロデの息子アケラオだと聞いてこわくなりました。するともう一度、夢で、ユダヤ地方に行くと警告されたので、ガリラヤに行き、ナザレという町に住みつきました。こうして、預言者がメシヤのことを「彼はナザレ人と呼ばれる」と語った通りになったのです。
この通りの言葉で語った預言者はいない。メシヤが人々にさげすまれる事を意味していて、それは旧約聖書のいくつかの箇所で預言されている。（イザヤ書５３：３－９等）ナザレは非常に田舎の小さな町だった。
