■アルゼンチン、中国違法漁船を撃沈 警告無視し逃走・体当たり

【3月16日 AFP】アルゼンチン当局は15日、同国の沿岸警備隊が、南大西洋で違法操業をしていた中国漁船を撃沈したと発表した。　

　当局によると、沿岸警備隊は14日、同国の首都ブエノスアイレス（　Buenos Aires　）の南1300キロにあるプエルトマドリン（　Puerto Madryn　）の沖合で中国漁船を発見し、停船を求めたが、漁船側はこれを無視して逃走。沿岸警備隊の船舶に繰り返し体当たりしてきたため、沿岸警備隊に射撃命令が出された。

　船長は漁船が沈み始めるまでエンジンを止めなかったという。警察当局の声明によると、乗組員は全員救助され無事だった。

Argentina's coast guard says it sank a Chinese boat that was fishing illegally off its coast
Argentina's coast guard says it sank a Chinese fishing vessel that was fishing in a restricted area off the South American country's coast.

The Argentine Naval Prefecture chased and eventually sank the Lu Yan Yuan Yu 010 vessel after detecting it illegally fishing within the country's exclusive economic zone, officials said Tuesday.

First, according to a statement from the coast guard, warning shots were fired. The Chinese vessel, Argentine authorities said, responded by turning off its lights and deliberately trying to crash.

"On distinct occasions, the offending boat realized maneuvers aimed at colliding with the coast guard, putting not only its own crew at risk, but also the personnel of the coast guard," the statement said.

That's why the coast guard opened fire, Argentine officials said.

The vessel sank, and four people on board -- three crew members and the captain -- were rescued by Argentina's coast guard. Other crew members who'd been on the Chinese vessel boarded another fishing boat that had been traveling nearby, the coast guard said.

Argentina's foreign ministry and the Chinese consulate have been notified, the coast guard said.

Chinese officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Video posted on YouTube by the coast guard shows the Chinese boat listing to one side during the operation.

Subscribe Argentina's coastguard has sunk a Chinese fishing trawler that was operating illegally within its territorial waters, the coastguard said on Tuesday.

In a high-seas chase, a coastguard vessel on Monday pursued the fishing vessel Lu Yan Yuan Yu 010 toward international waters, firing warning shots across the Chinese boat's bow as it attempted to raise the crew by radio.

"On several occasions, the offending ship performed maneuvers designed to force a collision with the coastguard, putting at risk not only its own crew but coastguard personnel, who were then ordered to shoot parts of the vessel," the coastguard said in a statement.

It was not clear if the vessel sank on Monday or Tuesday.

Officials at the Chinese Embassy in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, were not available for comment.

The coastguard said it rescued four of the trawler's crew while others who abandoned ship were picked up by another Chinese vessel shadowing the pursuit. (Reporting by Juliana Castilla and Richard Lough; editing by Grant McCool)
