It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance, and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain and help with navigation and manipulate objects. The new Atlas is smaller than old Atlas, it looks a lot closer to an average human, at just 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. 米ネット大手グーグルの傘下企業で、軍事用ロボットを手掛ける米ボストン・ダイナミクス（マサチューセッツ州）は２４日までに、バランスを取りながら雪道を上手に歩く人間型ロボット「アトラス」の最新機種を開発し、動画投稿サイトで映像を公開した。.

　人間のように滑らかな動きでドアを開けて建物から林の中に外出。積もった雪に足を取られて何度も転びそうになりながら、そのたびに踏みこらえて林の中を踏破する様子が捉えられている。重い荷物をしゃがんで抱え上げることや、人間に突き飛ばされて転んでも自力で立ち上がることができる。.

　アトラスは同社が米国防総省の国防高等研究計画局（ＤＡＲＰＡ）と共同開発した。従来機種を改良した最新型は身長約１７５センチ、体重約８２キロ。バッテリーで手足の関節部にある駆動装置を動かし、レーザー距離計や立体カメラで前方の物体や路面の状態を見分ける。同社は他に４本脚の動物型ロボットも開発しており、戦場で兵士を補助する役目を念頭に置いているとみられる。

鉄腕アトムの「ロボット憲法」の第一条は、「人間を襲わない。人間を襲う命令があると自動的に停止する」でした。

海外の研究は、軍事ロボットが主体です。

日本の研究所に入る中韓人も軍事目的です。日本の研究者の平和利用は、悪用されるでしょうな。
