「オズの魔法使い」の挿入歌がイギリスで大ヒット！

イギリスで今、アメリカ映画、「オズの魔法使い/The Wizard of Oz」の挿入歌である「鐘を鳴らせ！悪い魔女は死んだ/Ding Dong the Witch is Dead」という歌がリバイバル･ヒットしているそうです。

なぜ今頃そんな歌が大ヒットしているのかと言いますと、今日本でも公開中の「オズ　はじまりの戦い/Oz: The Great and Powerful」の人気のせいではありません。

この理由はなんと、4月8日にイギリスの元首相、マーガレット・サッチャー/Margaret Thatcherさんが亡くなったことを受けて、この歌をヒットチャート一位にしようという運動が行われているのだそうです。

サッチャー/Thatcher首相といえば英国で初の女性としての首相を務め、「鉄の女/Iron Lady」との異名をとった強気の首相といった印象です。

在任期間中に弱者に対して厳しい政策を実施したことから、一般庶民からは大変憎まれたようです。

一国の首相を務めた人に対してこんな運動を広げるのはちょっと失礼かな、とも思いますが、サッチャー/Thatcher首相に対する恨みはこれほども深かったのかということを実感させるエピソードではあります。

事実、イギリスの強者をバックに弱者を冷遇する政策はアメリカにも影響を与え、今の日本の不景気にも少なからぬ影響を与えたと思います。
