足袋のサイズはどうなってるの？ What is the size of tabi?

そう言えば、足袋のサイズ表示ってご存知ですか？

Talking of Tabi, do you know how the size of Tabi is shown?

着物には、昔古来の単位、「尺」とか使ってるんですけど、

For Kimono, the traditional Japanese unit of measurement "Shaku" etc is normally used.

足袋は、ふつーーに、「23.5㎝の足袋ありますか？」と、

However, "Can I have 23.5cm tabi?" is ok for tabi.

I forgot to say one thing yesterday, by the way.

足袋の受け糸は平行に２本ついてます。

Tabi have two Kohaze threads each horizontally.

これで、サイズ調整ができるんです。

You can adjust the size with those threads.

ちょっと「小さいか？」と思ったら、

"Oh, it's a bit tight", if you think so

一本目の受け糸にかければいいんです。

You can fasten the Kohaze to the1st Kohaze thread.

卒業式の袴にも、足袋は必須です。

Tabi are one of the necessary item for Hakama for your graduation ceremony.

右の写真は、こはぜがない靴下型。

The tabi in the right pic do not have Kohaze, like socks.

あ、「こはぜ」って何って？

What is Kohaze, did you say?

しまった！専門用語を簡単に口にするなんて、専門家としてカッコ悪い

Oops, using jargon without consideration is not cool as a specialist...

「こはぜ」って、足袋に付いてる留め金のこと。

Kohaze are the clasps on the tabi.

では、足袋を履いてみましょう！

Ok, let' s wear Tabi now!

(1)まず、こんな風に折り曲げてね。(下の図）

Fold back the tabi like this first.(See below)

(2)それから、そこに足を入れちゃう。(上の図）

Then, put your foot into it.　(See above)

ここがポイント！

This is the trick!

(3)こはぜは下から受け糸にハメます。

Slide the clasps into the Kohaze thread from bottom up.

(4)あっ、できた！

Ok, completed!
