Good morning音譜

It is almost the start to Japan's Obonお墓 holidays...

What do you do during these holidays?

I went to Vancouver in May and when I was

there, I always look forward to eating great food.

What are famous Canadian カナダdishes?

Let's see... salmon焼き鮭 and ...

lots of ethnic food from around the world.

Of course, Japanese food is very popular.

There are sushi shops everywhere you look.寿司

But I really look forward to good Chinese 中華丼のガラfood

when I go to Canada...

In Japan, they call these Chinese dishes yum cha (tea tasting)

but overseas, they call them dim sum(touch the heart)せいろ

Dumplings, steamed buns, noodles, and cooked meats

are typical dim sum dishes.

Thanks to so many Chinese immigrants, authentic Chinese restaurants in Vancouver

are simply better than anywhere else!

They are inexpensive安い and can be found everywhere... not just in Chinatown.

Yum cha is yummy ビックリマークうまい

Yuzu

This time of year, the Yuzu fruitゆず can be seen growing on trees all over the country. The yuzu fruitゆず looks like a small grapefuit and is very aromatic. It originates from China.

Yuzu yuzu*is used in Japanese, Korean and Chinese cooking.
Its rind is very aromatic and is used to add a tart zest to food!
It is also used in marmaladecrml and to make sauces.shokopon

In Japan, the most famous use of Yuzuゆず is to bathe with it.
In Japan, bathing with yuzu ゆずon Toji (the winter solstice; December 22nd) is a popular custom.
The whole fruits are floated in the hot water of the bathお風呂** (sometimes enclosed in a cloth bag), releasing their aroma.アロマ

They say that if you take a bath with yuzu on this day,
you won't catch a cold this winter!

Good evening!Hi

A very cold and wet day嫌... I hope the weekend is much nicer!ハート

scribblescrabbleのブログ
Last week I took my friend Melody to try some "Okonimiyaki"お好み焼き.

Okonomi= "what you like" or "what you want", "to your liking".

Yaki= "to cook" or "to grill".

Okonomiyaki can best be described as "Japanese pancakes"ホットケーキ (but not sweet!) or Japanese pizzaピザand is associated with the Osaka (Kansai region)and Hiroshima.

scribblescrabbleのブログ

The batter is made out of dashi stock, flour薄力粉eggsegg.cabbage野菜and grated yam山芋.

You can add almost anything to this basic batter: meat豚肉seafoodエビor cheeseチーズ!

scribblescrabbleのブログ
Of course, the best part is cooking the Okonomiyaki on a "teppan" (iron grill).

If you go to a restaurant equipped with a grill, you are given the batter to cook yourselves!

Many foreign visitors like the taste of the okonomiyaki sauce which is similiar to Worcestershire Sauceソース, but sweeter and tastierうまい!

So... what did she think☆

Okonomiyakai
... Delicious!ニコニコ

Monjayaki … 水色 No thank-you!ショック!

(Monjayaki is similiar to Okonomiyaki, but a speciality of the Kanto region. It's batter is much more liquid, and when cooked it's consistency is similary to uncooked batter...)
