Christmas is right around the corner.

What happened to autumn?

Last week, I received a message from a nice gentleman.

He wanted to know if I wanted to come and pick some vegetables from

his garden.

Of course!

This time of year, it is time to harvest sweet potatoes.

I was shocked to see how big his garden...rather his field is!

You see, this ICHIRO-san　is in his 80's.

But he is so genki and fit, you would never know it!

He drove me to his field (he still drives!) and in his car, he put on a CD.

'I want you to listen to this...'

I was really curious... what kind of music does he like listening to?

It wasn't music... but rather an English conversation CD to practice for the TOEIC test!　Into his 80s, he is still studying!

Forever learning... intellectually stimulated... no matter how old (or young) you are!

I am inspired...

Hello

Wednesdays are exhausting

It is right in the middle of the week...

2 more days until the weekend....

On Wednesdays, after working at Scribble Scrabble

I also teach English.

So it is an exhausting day...

But Wednesdays are a day of choices...

First, I go to one of my favorite bakeries in Tsukuba to buy

a little something for dinner...

Then, after teaching, I go to Tsutaya to rent my favorite DVDs at 1/2 price!

So many choices...

Twice a week I teach English to children and one thing that I have a problem getting used to is how to mark

tests and notebooks.

In Japan, you use the when the answer is correct!

In North America, you use the .

This is very difficult to get used to!

When I marked , a student wanted to know why she made so many MISTAKES　on her test.

I see... the means "incorrect"... that it needs to be "checked".

In North America, you use the when you get something wrong.

Very confusing!

But this student gets a 　because her handwriting is so beautiful!

I have never missed rain as much!

Last weekend, I attended an English seminar in Tokyo.

Of course, whenever I am in Tokyo, I always visit Maruzen Bookstore in Marunouchi

One of my favorite bookstores

Although the day was extremely hot, I walked all the way down from Yukarcho to

Marunochi... a lovely stroll through Tokyo.

Along the way, I noticed a store packed with people

It was a Cath Kidston store.

FYI... Cath Kidston is a British designer who designs wallpaper, fabric,

bags, children' accessories and home goods.

Cath Kidston Ltd was founded in 1993 when designer Cath Kidston opened a tiny shop in London’s Holland Park. She began by selling the vintage fabrics, wallpapers and brightly-painted junk furniture she remembered fondly from her childhood. Her re-working of traditional English country house style meant that her shop soon became a cult success.
