Today I came to Matsubara early because last week I was later for the class here due to a train trouble.
Matsubara is a place where I had lived since my high school days. My wife came here from Malaysia more than half a century ago. My two children were born and grew here. We have a sweet memory in this town.
Although it’s very cold outside,we can spend warm comfortable time in our house with the modern equipments such as gas or electric heating system.
In my childhood, we used some charcoal urns called ‘hibachi’.
In our school, there was no heater until my 5th grade. Most of children in those days suffered from frostbite.
Some of my classmates of poor families wore no socks.
現在は野外は寒くても、室内はどこも暖かく快適ですね。私たちの子供の頃は室内でもかなり寒かった。火鉢だけだったから。小学校は5年まではストーブはなかった。ほとんどの子どもは霜焼けになっていました。
貧しい家の子たちは靴下も履いていなかった。今は霜焼けと言う言葉さえ聞くことはないですね。
When we get old, we feel difficult to catch up with high technology.
For example, as I bought a new computer, I tried making this year’s greeting cards with a new computer.
歳をとると、新しい科学技術に追いつくのは難しいと感じるようになります。例えば私は新しいパソコンを買ったので今年の年賀状は新しいパソコンで作ってみました。
But it was so difficult that I couldn’t make them smoothly. As many people of my generation stopped sending new year cards, I nearly gave up sending them too.
でもかなり難しくそう簡単には出来なかった。
私の世代の多くは年賀状を送るのを止める人が多いので私もやめてもいいかと思いました。
But it would have been regrettable if I had given up because of the luck of my knowledge about the computer.
でも私は止める理由が自分がパソコンを使いこなせないからということにしたくはなかった。
I worked hard and at last I could make all new year cards for this year.
私は頑張って最終的には今年の年賀状はすべて作ることができました。
As long as I live in this world, I should struggle to cope with new technologies and keep up with the trends of the world.
まあ、この世に生きている間は新しい科学技術に取り残されないよう、また社会の趨勢についていけるよう悪戦苦闘を続けるつもりです。
古いイヤホンからBluetooth 用のワイヤレスに変えようかな。補聴器が目立たなくなりそうやから。

「カミにたよるな、ウンは自らの手でつかめ」とありました。団塊の世代の諸君！
「若者にたよるな！ウンは自らの手でつかめ」で
行こう！
まあ、出来るだけ彼らにたよらないで年寄り同士で助け合いましょう。
