春分の日Vernal equinox

Today is an important Buddhist day called 彼岸 which literally means the other side of the river.
Our temple monk said to me, “It is the state of enlightenment. It’s not necessarily to be the hereafter. Our Buddhist goal is to reach the state of enlightenment while we are alive”. Today I visited our family grave to pray to Buddha for our happy and healthy life.

今日はお彼岸と呼ばれる仏教の大切な祭日ですね。文字通りには向う岸という意味ですが私たちのお坊さんは「それは悟りの境地のことで必ずしもあの世のことではありません。私たち仏教徒は生きている間に悟りの境地に達することを目指すべきです」と言われました。

今日、私は家族のお墓を訪れて幸せと健康を祈りました。

そこは葛城山の麓で春らしい良い天気で気持ち良かった。

Through my life, I’ve met many good people and got acquainted with them. 

Those reliable and trustworthy people are very helpful.

It’s lucky I’ve got many such friends and acquaintances. 

かの武田信玄が「人は城」と言ったとか。

信頼のおける人材を多数得ることが建造物としての城より価値があるということですね。

私は人生を通してこれまでの出会いを大切にしてきたおかげで多く人と信頼を結んできました。友人、先輩、後輩、先生、同僚、上司、仕事のこと、人生のことで支えてくれる人に出会えて幸運です。

It’s time to say “sayonara”

In Japan, the fiscal year starts in April and ends in March. And so does the school year. That’s why students leave their schools and many companies’ employees leave their sections to work in the new sections in March. So it’s time to move to new places.
The sound of ‘sayonara’ is beautiful and elegant. In many Japanese songs, it is used.
“Sayonara sayonara, genkideitene…”
“Sayonara anata Watasi
wa kaerimasu…”
“Sayonara wa dance no atode…”
“Namida kun sayonara
Sayonara Namidakun mata au himade…”
3月は「さよなら」の季節ですね。
「さよなら」の文字通りの意味は「左様なら」つまり「そういうことなら」「そういう事情なので」仕方がないと言いたい。
つまり本当はあなたと別れたくないのですが、仕方がないのです。そういうことなので、という気持ちを含んだ言葉だと思う。少し悲しく切ないでも美しい言葉ですね。

I think the literal meaning of sayonara is 左様なら ‘if so’ or ‘therefore’.

“Actually I don’t want to leave you but I need to because it can’t be helped and therefore I have to say “goodbye”.

“If so, we’d like to say “goodbye and good luck to you”.
