最近ラジオなどで「キャッチー」とか「タッチー」という日本語をよく聞く。「キャッチーなメロディー」、とか「タッチーな問題」などと使われているようである。
何となくニュアンスは解るのだが判然としない。以下に調べてみた。両方とも歴とした英単語であった。
Catchy:
If you describe a tune, name, or advertisement as catchy, you mean that it is attractive and easy to remember.
「あるメロディー、名前または広告が、人をひきつけ（魅力的で）覚えやすい様子」
Touchy:
1) If you describe someone as touchy, you mean that they are easily upset, offended, or irritated.
「人が取り乱しやすい、腹を立てやすい、またはイライラしやすい様子」
2) If you say that something is a touchy subject, you mean that it is a subject that needs to be dealt with carefully and in a sensitive way, because it might upset or offend people.
「ある話題が人を動揺させる、または人の反感を買うおそれがあるため、注意深く、また慎重を期した方法で取り扱う必要がある様子」

The song was both catchy and sophisticated.
「その曲は覚えやすく洗練されてもいた」
She is very touchy about her ex-boyfriend.
「彼女は元カレのことを話すとキレやすい」
Issue of military comfort women is touchy.
「従軍慰安婦問題は取扱いが難しい」
