"Cake" is part of cool phrases. Here are a few...
"That takes the cake" often has a negative connotation. As in, the worst thing among a lot of bad things.
"(Can't) have your cake and eat it, too!" Implying some chicanery to take advantage of a loophole.)
"cake-eater" (spoiled, self-indulgent, wealthy person).
"icing on the cake." - Something extra on top of an already good thing.
"cake-walk" - something easy ("piece of cake" 朝飯前）
"Let them eat cake!" ("Qu'ils mangent de la brioche") -Marie Antoinette (to starving peasants with no bread.) 「ブリオッシュ」= "cake." "Tone-deaf" / "out-of-touch." 🎂

"That takes the cake "はしばしば否定的な意味合いを持つ。数ある悪いものの中で最悪のもの、というような意味だ。

as usual, we (the British) have our own version - "take the biscuit". 😉
Probably the best-known cake-based idiom used in the UK is "a piece of cake" (朝飯前).

You want to come to Australia and you will hear lots of phrases that you have no idea what they mean.
Would you like to eat a dog’s eye with dead horse?
That means - would you like to eat a pie with sauce. That sure takes the the cake for rhyming sentences.
