涼しいような蒸し暑いような、不思議なお天気ですが、なんと、９月です。

It seems cool but humid... strange weather, recently. September, the first month in autumn, started yesterday.
BTW, the nineth month of the year is Septmber. However, sept means seven. The following months means eight, nine and ten likewise.
Why is there a gap like these between the months and their numbers?
英語でSeptmberと言いますが、septは、フランス語では７です。Octoberのoctは、octagon(八角形)などの８と言う意味です。Novemberのnove は９だし、Decemberのdecは１０です。２ずつ数字と月名がずれているのですが、なぜ？
誰かご存知でしたら教えてください。
