SOCCER / Sawa named best women's player by FIFA
ZURICH--Homare Sawa, who captained Japan to victory at the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany, was named the world's top female player in 2011, world soccer governing body FIFA announced Jan. 9.
Sawa became the first Asian player, either male or female, to win FIFA’s Ballon d'Or. Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi snared the men's award for the third straight year.
"This award is not just for me," Sawa told the FIFA.com website. "I'm able to play at such a level because of all the great people I have around me--my coach, my teammates and my family. So I'd like to dedicate (the award) to all of them."
女子サッカー選手の澤 穂希さんが、ベスト女性プレーヤー賞を受賞されました。
自分だけの賞ではない、全ての人のお陰で、このようなプレーができるのだと、澤 穂希さん。
