あや、今日の話は、男と女の話だ
Aya, today's lecture is about men and women

男と女ってのは、昔っからめっちゃくちゃややこしいべ
Man and woman are very complex from long ago



ゼンマイを採るモンの中には、
Among those who take the zennmai,

わけのわがらんことを言うモンがおる
there is a person who says what I can not understand

「女ゼンマイも全て収穫してしまうと子孫が残らない」
"When we picked up all of Female zennmai, no descendants remain"

なんて言うやつもおったべ
He said

だが、そりゃァ、ウソだ
But that's a lie

あや、ここからは、中学校レベルの話になるだべ
Aya, from now on, it's going to be a junior high school level story

だいたいシダ類にゃァ、男とか女とかねえンだども…
There are no concepts of "Male"or"Female" in ferns・・・



子孫を残しとるのは男ゼンマイだべ
It is a Male-zennmai who is doing the job of releasing descendants

女ゼンマイを全部取ったら、
When we took all the Female-zennmai, 

子孫でなくて、その株の方が枯れちまうンだ
Descendants will not disappear, but the body will die

あや、おめえは、たった10才の女子わらしだども、
Aya, you are only 10 years old girl,

しっかりもんだから多分、わがるべ
But you will understand, because you are smart.



前回までの男ゼンマイの写真をみるだ。ざらざらしとる
Look at the previous picture. It's rough

普通の葉っぱじゃァねえ。
It isn't an ordinary leaf

むつかしい言葉だが「胞子嚢ほうしのう」というのがいっぱい付いとるだ
(Next is a difficult word) The sporangium is full

胞子嚢にはゼンマイの赤ちゃんになる「胞子ほうし」ってのが入っとるだべ
The sporangium contains spores that will become zennmai baby

胞子をばらまいているのが男ゼンマイだ
It is the Male-zennmai that spreads the spores

だがら、男ゼンマイの本質は、人間で言えば女だべ
So, the essence of Male-zennmai is a Woman



一方、女ゼンマイは葉っぱさおっ広げで、
On the other hand, the Female-zennmai is spread in leaves, 

お天ど様の光を受げで光合成をやっとるだ
and receives the light from the sun and it gets on photosynthesis

しっかり働いで、株に栄養を送っとるべ
Work well and nourish the body

東京サ出稼ぎに行っとる父ちゃんと同じだ
Same as your father who is going to work in Tokyo

だがら、女ゼンマイは、人間で言えば男の役目を果たしとるだべ
Therefore, the Female-zennmai fulfills the role of a Male in terms of humans



昔のもんは、見てくれだけで男とか女とか決めとったんじゃ
Old time peoples decided to male or female by appearance only

だがら、この世の中がややこしくなったんだべ
So, the world got confused




今、ここに、ゼンマイが出とるっちゅうことは、
Right now, the zennmai is growing here,

胞子がいい場所に着地できたちゅうことだ
ｔhat means spores have landed in good places

だがら、その株は絶対に枯らしちゃいげねえべ
So, you must never kill zennmai body

だがら、女ゼンマイは必ず２本以上残すだ
However, the Female-zennmai is sure to leave two or more

ゼンマイの株を守ると、山の女神が微笑んでくれるだべ
If you protect the zennmai, the goddess of the mountain smiles

ゼンマイを採るモンの中には、
Among those who take the zennmai,

わけのわがらんことを言うモンがおる
there is a person who says what I can not understand

美味いのは「女」の方で、
He says,"good taste is Female-zennmai,

「男」はやや固く女に比べ味が落ちる…ちゅうとるんじゃが
and Male-zennmai are somewhat harder and taste is lower"・・・

そりゃァ、ウソだ
But, It's a lie

固くねえと「男」じゃねえってとこだけは分がるべ…
Only I can understand is that, it can not be called a "male" unless it is stiff



だがな、ゼンマイっちゅうもんは、
But The zennmai is,

先っぽが男だろうが女だろうが
whether it is a Male or a Female

同じ株から延びてくるだ
it extend from the same strain

違ェなんて、あるはずがねェ
There is no difference between Male or Female

今日の写真を見るべ
Look at the photos of today.

男ゼンマイの方が先にニョキっと伸びるだ
The Male-zennmai grows early

しょうがねェが、男ってェのは、だいたいそんなもんだァ
Men are mostly like that

その後で、女ゼンマイが伸びる
After that, the Female-zennmai is growing.

男ゼンマイと女ゼンマイが同じ高さになったのが次の写真だ
Next picture is that male-zennmai and Female-zennmai became the same height

あや、おめえは、たった10才の女子わらしだども、

しっかりもんだがら分がるべ
but, you will understand, because you are smart.

こンときャ、男ゼンマイの方が余計に日数が経っとるだ
At this time, the Male-zennmai took more days

同じ株なら男ゼンマイが固ェに決まっとるだべ
If it belongs to the same strain, the Male-zennmai should be harder



男ゼンマイも出たばっかりの物は柔らけェし
The Male-zennmai also, just appeared is soft

女ゼンマイでも日がたてば、固ェ
The Female-zennmai also, gets stiff as days go by

あや、煮しめのゼンマイを採るんなら、男でも女でもええンじゃ
Aya, If you cook "nishime", you can use both "Male"or"Female"

どっちでもポキっと折れるヤツを採ればええンだべ
You take Zennmai that breaks by hand only



味にしても、男女の違いなんてねェ
Even if it's tastes, there is no difference between "Female"or"Male"

ゼンマイは調理の前にアクを抜ぐだども
We get rid of the "Aku" before cooking zennmai

茹ででから２～３日水にさらすべ
After boiling, we immerse the zennmai in water for 2-3 days

わずかな味なんて、みーんな抜けちまうだ
All slight taste is fall out

煮しめの味を決めるのは、醤油の銘柄と煮干しと油揚げだべ
To decide the taste of "nishime", is only Soy-sauce, Niboshi and Aburage

ゼンマイにゃァ、二通りある
There are two types of Zennmai.

『男おどごゼンマイ』と『女おなごゼンマイ』だ
It is "Male-zennmai" and "Female-zennmai"

下の写真の丸いタマタマが男ゼンマイだ
The round ball of the picture below is Male-zennmai

なして男ゼンマイというだが、あや、おめェは知らねェべ
You probably do not know, why it is a "Male-zennmai"

それは、こうしたわけだっしゃァ…
That is・・・


ばばの口から言うのも何だども…
It is hard to say from my mouth・・・

おめェはおなごわらしだし
Because You are a girl,

兄弟も妹のそよしがいねェ
and you have only a sister

だがら、きっと見たこたァねェべ
So you probably have not seen it

これはな、男の「キ○○マ」そっくりなんじゃ（完）
