相次ぐ不祥事が表面化したニュービリビッド刑務所を
アキノ大統領が、15日に、抜き打ち視察するとの情報が流れたが
直前になって中止された。
この影響で、前日から収監者たちは
テレビなどの電化製品を隠したり清掃作業に追われ
当日は安全上の理由から収監用の各棟に閉じ込められたまま。
いつもは収監者たちで混雑する施設内にその姿は見られず
一時的に「無人状態」へと様変わりしたという。
大統領視察情報から一夜明けたモンテンルパ刑務所内は
収監者で混雑する日常の風景に戻った。

アメリカ海軍と
ASEAN5か国(フィリピン、ブルネイ、インドネシア、マレーシア、タイ)の海軍の
合同軍事演習が6月14日
フィリピン西部パラワン島東側のスルー海で始まった。
10日間かけて行われる予定。
また、6月28日から7月8日まで同じ海域で
フィリピン海軍とアメリカ海軍による
「協力海上即応訓練(CARAT)」も予定されており
フィリピンからは軍艦5隻、兵士1000人
アメリカ海軍からは軍艦6隻と空母3隻、海兵3,000人が参加するようです。
フィリピン海軍の報道官は
「これらの演習や訓練は、南シナ海におけるフィリピンと
中国の緊張の高まりを受けて計画されたものだ」とコメントしている。
