絶滅危惧種
7月15日、フィリピンの野生生物保護団体が
劣悪な環境に隠し置かれていた希少なカメ数千匹を保護した。
パラワン島北部にしか生息していない
絶滅危惧ＩＡ類（近絶滅種）のフィリピンヤマガメもいたという。
保護団体によると
約４週間前、フィリピン西部パラワン島の人里離れた場所にある倉庫内部で
数多くの淡水ガメを発見。
４０００匹以上はまだ生きていたが、９０匹以上はすでに死んでいたという。
野生生物の救出・保護活動としてはフィリピン国史上において最大規模となった。

中国とフィリピンが領有権問題で争っている
南シナ海（South China Sea）のスカボロー礁について
アメリカのグーグル社が、フィリピン国内からの抗議を受け
自社の地図サービス「グーグルマップ」から
中国名を削除していたことが分かった。
グーグルマップ上では
7月14日の時点で、礁の表記は国際的な名称の「スカボロー礁」とされている。
同サービス上では以前、この礁が中国の「沙諸島」の一部と表示されていたことから
ネット上では、この礁を中国領とみなす表記をやめるよう
フィリピン国内から、グーグルに求める運動が展開されていた。
