Dannii Minogueの07年初のシングルとなる「He's the Greatest Dancer」がオーストラリアで発売された。
Dannii Minogueは71年オーストラリアのMelbourne生まれ。7歳から子役としてオーストラリアのTVで活躍し、TVの番組で歌ったりもしていた。レコードデビューは、オーストラリアで89年の「Dannii」。このアルバムは「Love and Kisses」というタイトルで91年に海外で再度リリースされた。92年には「Love and Kisses」のRemix Album「Love and Kisses and...」をリリースと、早い時期からClub Chartをメインとした戦略を行っている。93年には「Get into You」、97年には「Girl」をリリースし、99年に「The Remixes」をリリースした。01年にはオランダのdance DJs Zki & Dobriと共にRiva名義でsingle「Who Do You Love Now?」をリリースし、U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play 1位、UK Single Sales 3位と見事な復活をし、03年の「Neon Nights」からは「Put the Needle on It」（UK7位）、「I Begin to Wonder」（UK 2位）、「Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling」（UK 5位）となっただけでなく、この曲にMadonna'の「Into the Groove」をSamplingした「Don't Wanna Lose This Groove」はU.S. Billboard Hot Dance Airplay 8位とこのアルバムから米英豪でヒットを連発した。その後、Danniiは04年に「You Won't Forget About Me」をSingleでリリースし、UK 7位、U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart 5位とヒットさせ、06年にはBest Album「The Hits & Beyond」をリリースし、1st singleの「So Under Pressure」はUKのClubで大ヒットした。
今回のSingle「He's the Greatest Dancer」は、Will SmithがGettin' Jiggy Wit It.でSamplingしていたSister Sledgeの79年のR&B Chart1位になったhit songで、06年11月にイギリスのチャリティーでパフォーマンスしていたもので、昨年末からUKでPromoでClubでかかっていたモノがやっとでCD化された模様。オーストラリアのファンを思ってか、UKで配られたPromo通りの8曲を収録しているのが嬉しい限り。
曲はClubでの定番で結構聞く曲なのだが、Dannii らしくちゃんとRemixで新しさを前面に押し出している為、新曲としてCoverらしく聞かせないのがさすがDannii。フロアで長期間聞きそうな不変的ナンバーだ。
古いヒット曲を使って新しい魅力を見せること近年追求しているようにも思うDanniiだが、毎度センスの良さに驚かされる。
