You don't need to hear another list of statistics to know that our economy is in crisis, because you live it every day. It's the worry you wake up with and the source of sleepless nights. It's the job you thought you'd retire from but now have lost; the business you built your dreams upon that's now hanging by a thread; the college acceptance letter your child had to put back in the envelope. The impact of this recession is real, and it is everywhere.
But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken, though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before. (Applause.)

Two New Zealand prisoners who were handcuffed together as they fled a courthouse foiled their own getaway when they ran to opposite sides of a light pole, slammed into each other and fell to the ground.
Jailers nabbed them as they struggled to their feet.
Their escapade on Wednesday was captured by a CCTV camera at Hastings District Court on New Zealand's North Island. The footage shows the two men trying to make a break for it _ but apparently forgetting they were joined at the wrist.

One morning last month, the manager of a Stop & Shop in Methuen, Mass., noticed a man, along with his young daughter, leave the store without paying for several bags of shrimp. When police arrived, they found something else on him, too: 20 cans of baby formula.
Retail and law enforcement experts agree that they've seen an increase in store theft during the current slowdown ― and not only from customers.
"It's clear that both employee theft and shoplifting are up," says Richard Hollinger, professor of criminology at the University of Florida who compiles the annual National Retail Security Survey. "The most recent rise is being driven by the economy. A lot of people are on the financial edge."

Everyone wanted to look amazing at this year’s Oscars, and it was definitely a night for actresses to grace the red carpet in red or some shade of white. Some people did it right, while others left a lot to be desired.
Here are our picks for best and worst of Oscar fashion:
Best
Sarah Jessica Parker: The “Sex and the City” star loves to look like a ballerina, but she knows how to do it right and make sure she looks sexy.
Natalie Portman: Breaking the night’s trend of red and white, she showed up in shocking pink. Portman looked sophisticated and fresh.
Marion Cotillard: Sequins and tulle can be a horror show, but Marion is French and therefore made her party frock work.
Zac Efron and Robert Pattinson: These guys know how to work a tux and screamed old-school Hollywood style.
Angelina Jolie: She wasn’t wearing a muumuu. Plus, the combination of her black dress paired with those emerald earrings was shocking in the right way.
Worst
Miley Cyrus: Decked out in a sparkly, tiered white gown, she looked like she was auditioning for the role of Cinderella at the Magic Kingdom.
Kate Winslet: She likes the bandage-style dress, but at this point, it’s getting a little tired. And the weird lacy, sequined detailing wasn’t an improvement.
Tilda Swinton: She never embraces traditional styles and sometimes looks bizarre. Plus, her hair, skin and the top half of her dress all matched.( no picture here)
Beyoncé: She looked like my great aunt’s couch!
Amy Adams: Her red gown with geometric black detailing was strange and not flattering. How disappointing.
