The Beauty of Bubble-Era Bridal Fashion
During Japan’s economic boom of the 1980s–early 1990s, extravagant bridal wear was created for celebrity weddings. These uchikake, featuring Nishijin brocade, hand-painted Yuzen dyeing, Sagara embroidery, and gold leaf artistry, showcase master craftsmanship at its finest. Setsuko Wakatsuki traveled across Japan to collect these rare vintage uchikake, now carefully preserved and presented in this exhibition.
Kimono Dresses & Upcycling
Wakatsuki's brand, Robe de Kimono, reimagines kimono culture for future generations. These elegant kimono dresses have been worn by fashion icons and celebrities, gaining international acclaim as an early pioneer of kimono upcycling.
