We do enjoy having friends over for late lunch/ dinner. Small nibbles for starter,  salad, big bowl of main (such as creamy meatballs or  grilled chicken or vegetarian pasta). One long weekend, A went to a football game with friends and had bite at us afterwards. One of our friend is a vegetarian so it was a bit tricky as my usual nibbles such as  italian meats/ smoked salmon are out.  This is one of the vegetarian safe and we all loved this. Small savory scones.

Ingredients
(for approx 30 small scones)
40g parmigiano cheese (grated)
40g ementar cheese (grated)
1 med-large onion (finely diced)
1tbsp olive oil
6-7 black olives (pitted and diced)
175g self raising flour
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 mustard powder
freshly grind black pepper
25g unsalted butter (diced)
1 medium egg (beaten)
2-3 tbsp milk

Direction
1. Fry onions in a olive oil for about 5 mins until golden. Leave it cool.
2. Sieve flour, salt, mustard powder, cayenne pepper in a large bowl. Add good amount of black pepper.
3. Rub in butter then add onions, olives and 2/3 of cheese then mix well.
4. Pour egg in and mix well. Add milk to make a soft dough but not sticky.
5. Transfer dough into slightly floured worktop, knead it to about 2cm thick.
6. Use about 3cm cutter and stamp out scones. (I had to use a cookie cutter as I did not have a small scone cutter)
7. Put them on a slightly floured baking tray. Brush the surface with milk and sprinkle the rest of the grated cheese on top.
8. Preheat oven to 200c.
9. Bake in a oven for about 10-15 mins until golden.
