Baggage Claim
Air Canada>
[English Traslation]
Around 11:00 p.m. on July 31, I was waiting at the baggage claim area at Philadelphia Airport, but my suitcase wasn’t coming out. It was a small plane, similar to a domestic flight from Toronto, so there were few passengers, and all the luggage came out in a flash, but...
July 31, 10:46 p.m. I finally arrived at Philadelphia Airport! It took 17 hours from Japan.
I checked the carousel number over and over—maybe I had the wrong one?—but there was nothing there. Meanwhile, I was repeatedly approached by taxi drivers.
I asked at the empty United counter, and they told me the Air Canada office was next door. It was past 11:00 PM, so it was closed.
Baggage Claim at Philadelphia Airport
I asked a security guard, and she made a call for me. But the call didn’t go through.
I downloaded the Air Canada app on my smartphone. I found out that I needed to file a claim through this app for delayed luggage.
I had no choice but to head to the hotel without my suitcase.
Later, I was able to file a claim for delayed baggage through the app. After that, Air Canada sent me a text message with a system to track the location of my luggage.
It was originally supposed to arrive within one day.
I had to provide my current location, how long I’d be staying there, and whether it was my permanent address.
The first message told me my luggage was in Montreal!
Actually, I was supposed to connect from Montreal to Philadelphia, but due to crew issues, that flight was canceled and I was rebooked onto a different flight.
So I ended up taking a route via Toronto to Philadelphia, arriving in Philadelphia one hour late.
Apparently, I was supposed to pick up my luggage in Montreal at that time.
When I changed my flight, a female Air Canada employee issued two new tickets, but she only showed me how to use the self-service check-in kiosk. I asked her why the flight number had changed, but she didn’t answer at the time. Furthermore, she didn’t give me any instructions regarding baggage claim?
The next day, I was notified that my luggage had arrived in Philadelphia. They said they would arrange for delivery through a different carrier. I thought it would be delivered on the second day, but apparently, it was supposed to be delivered the very next day. However, at 10:00 p.m., I received a call from the hotel front desk informing me that my luggage had arrived.
I need to let Air Canada know via APP about the color, shape, and contents of my luggage.
<Air Canada Changed My Return Itinerary Too>
I also received a call from Air Canada regarding my return trip, informing me of a change to my flight. Originally, I was scheduled to fly to Narita via Montreal.
When checking my luggage, I had to use a kiosk to verify my passport and print my own baggage tag. At first, I didn’t understand what that meant, but after asking a security officer, I finally figured it out.
Due to the route change, I flew with United to Chicago. From Chicago to Narita Airport, I was scheduled to take Flight NH011. I was told that since my luggage would be transported directly to my final destination, Narita, I wouldn’t need to claim it in Chicago. I double-checked this by asking again just to be sure.
