本誌に掲載されている夏ダイヤ鉄道時刻表は、各国編の冒頭や各Table に別途記載がある場合を除き、1997年6月1日から9月27日まで有効なものがほとんどです。冬の国際列車情報（508 - 539ページ）は32ページに拡大し、国際線Table からTable 68までの9月28日からの暫定的な時刻表を掲載しています。
ハンガリー国鉄は7月13日からダイヤ改正を行いましたが、急な変更だったため、先月号で紹介できませんでした。主な変更点は、バラトン湖周辺を走る主要路線であるTable 1230で、ブダペスト - ケストヘイ間（シオーフォク経由）のインターシティが３本新設されたことです。これらの列車は、ザラエゲルセグへのバス接続も新設され、バスはBalatonszentgyörgyでインターシティと接続します。これにより、ザラエゲルセグはTable 1210の直通列車では不可能な、ブダペストとのより速いサービスを受けることができます。また、同日からペーチ - オシエク間が２往復で運行再開されたことも報告されています。この便は、クロアチアでの戦闘後、数年前に中断されていました。
アイルランド鉄道と北アイルランド鉄道は、9月1日からTable 230～249のように新ダイヤを導入します。今回の変更の目玉は、ダブリン - ベルファスト間の新サービス「エンタープライズ」で、新車両投入、以前より高頻度運転、速達の列車です。
先月述べたように、ストックホルム - オスロ間の夜行便（Table 750）は8月31日をもって運行を終了します。しかし、同日から廃止される予定だったバルト急行（バルチ・エクスプレス、タリン - Šeštokai、ワルシャワ発着で接続）は、今回10月31日まで猶予が与えられます。ポーランドでは、このたびの大洪水により多くの路線が被災し、一部の路線が破損・流失しています。状況は常に変化しており、路線閉鎖の最新情報を提供できませんが、ポーランドでの鉄道旅行がまだ不可能な場合もありますので、読者の皆様にはご注意ください。
1997年9月28日からの冬ダイヤ
リール - ブリュッセル間の高速鉄道が12月14日に開通し、それに伴いブリュッセル経由でパリ - ケルン間の高速列車タリスが導入予定です。そのため、冬ダイヤ追加情報内のいくつかのTable は、関連ページのトップにあるように、12月13日までしか有効ではありません。12月14日以降の新しい時刻表は、11月号および12月号で16ページの特別付録として掲載される予定です。通常の季節変動を除き、追加情報で掲載されているTable のうち、最も重要な変更点は以下の通りです。
Table 8/9 ユーロスターの地域別時刻表（案）の詳細が掲載されています。すでに大幅に遅れているこれらのサービスは、冬の期間中に開始されることが期待されます。
Table 10 冬期間、ロンドン - パリ間のユーロスターが若干縮小される予定です。12月14日からはさらに変更があるかもしれません。
Table 11/13 リール - リヨン - トゥールーズのTGVが新設されるほか、リール - トゥールーズ間にボルドー経由の列車が週１回運行されます。ブリュッセルとリールからシャルル・ド・ゴール空港を経由してフランス各地に向かうTGVの運行が引き続き拡大するため、夜行列車はTable 11から削除され、Table 13に記載されるようになりました。フランドル・リヴィエラ号は、リール - ヴェンティミリア間を毎日運行し、週３日カレー発着に延長される予定です。
Table 12 ロンドン - ブリュッセル間のユーロスターは、12月14日まで変更ありません。リール - ブリュッセル間の新線開業によりルート追加が行われ、所要時間は約２時間４０分に短縮されます。
Table 16 このスキー・トレインは、Table 49に改番されました。
Table 20/22 ハンブルクとコペンハーゲン間の列車が時間変更されます。北急行（ノルドエクスプレス）も運転時間変更され、オーステンデからではなく、ケルンから運行されるようになり、その過程でパリからの寝台が失われます。この列車はユーロナイト（EN）に分類され、ハンブルグ以北は6月に開通したグレートベルト・リンク（橋とトンネル）を経由して迂回することになります。例年通り、冬の間、ドナウヴァルツァー号はオーステンデからではなく、ブリュッセルから運行される予定です。12月14日からは、ケルンへの高速列車タリスの導入と、ロンドン・ブリュッセルのユーロスターの速達化によって大きな変更がもたらされます（Table 21とTable 25にも影響あり）。
Table 25 このTable も12月13日までしか有効ではありません。この日以降、パリ - ケルン間のナミュール経由のユーロシティ２本が廃止され、パリ - ケルン間の日中の移動はすべてブリュッセル経由の新設されたタリスに替わります。ナミュールとシャルルロワからは、パリ行の新サービスが運行予定です。
Table 41 このTable は、パリ - バーゼル間のサービスが大幅に変更されるため、多くの変更があります。パリ・リヨン駅 - チューリッヒ間のTGV列車が、ポンタルリエとベルンを経由するため（Table 42）、114/5 アルバレーテ号は、チューリッヒではなくパリ - バーゼル間で打切られ、ほぼ同じ時刻に、以前同様の所要時間で運転されます。
Table 42 このTable もかなり変更されています。パリ - ローザンヌ間のTGV列車の一部が時間変更され、前述のように、パリ - ベルン - チューリッヒ間のTGV列車が毎日運行されることになります。パリ発着のTGVと接続するフラーヌ - ベルン間の列車も時刻変更があり、ヌーシャテル - ベルン間はビエル経由とになります。これらの列車のうち１本は、早朝のパリ - ベルン間を結ぶ新設列車です。
Table 49 この冬季限定のTable （旧16番）は、ロンドン、ブリュッセル、北フランスからサヴォア地方へのウィンタースポーツ列車を示したものです。新しい特徴として、ウィンタースポーツシーズン中の土曜日に、ロンドン・ウォータールー駅とブール・サン・モーリスを結ぶユーロスター利用の直通列車が運行予定です。
Table 50 コペンハーゲン - ハンブルク便が再構成され、その結果、スカンジナビアの他の地域との接続が変更される予定です。コペンハーゲン - ハンブルク - ベルリン間の直通列車はなくなります。トレルボルグ - サスニッツ間の鉄道連絡フェリーは、1月7日よりサスニッツではなく、近隣のムクラン港を利用するようになります。これにより、マルメ - ベルリンの列車はサスニッツ中央駅に途中停車しなくなりました。
What's new this month
The summer rail schedules shown in this edition are mostly valid from June 1 to September 27, except where shown otherwise at the start of each country section or on individual tables. The Winter International Supplement (pages 508-539) has been expanded to 32 pages and gives provisional timings from September 28 for International tables up to Table 68.
Hungarian Railways amended their timetable from July 13, but the short notice meant that we were unable to show the changes last month. The main change is to Table 1230, the main line serving the Lake Balaton area, as a result of the introduction of three new IC trains between Budapest and Keszthely via Siófok. These trains also have a new bus connection to Zalaegerszeg, with buses meeting the IC trains at Balatonszentgyörgy. This gives Zalaegerszeg a faster service to and from Budapest than is possible on the through trains in Table 1210. It is also reported that the Pécs - Osijek service recommenced from the same date with two trains each way. This service was suspended some years ago as a result of the fighting in that part of Croatia.
Irish Railways and Northern Ireland Railways will introduce new schedules from September 1, as shown in Tables 230-249. Highlight of the changes is the new 'Enterprise' service between Dublin and Belfast with new rolling stock, more frequent trains and faster journey times.
As mentioned last month, the Stockholm - Oslo night service (Table 750) will cease to run after August 31. However, the Balti Ekspress (Tallinn - Šeštokai, with connection to/from Warszawa), which was to have been withdrawn from the same date, has now been given a reprieve to October 31. Many lines in Poland were affected by the recent devastating floods, and parts of some lines were damaged or washed away. As the situation is constantly changing it is not possible to give an up-to-date list of the line closures, but readers are advised that some rail journeys in Poland may still not be possible.
Winter services from September 28
The Lille - Brussels high-speed line is due to open on December 14 and will be accompanied by the introduction of Thalys services between Paris and Köln via Brussels. As a result, several of the tables in the Winter Supplement are valid to December 13 only, as shown at the top of relevant pages. The new timings from December 14 will be shown in a special 16-page supplement in our November and December editions. Apart from normal seasonal changes, the most significant alterations to those tables shown in our Winter Supplement are summarised below.
Tables 8/9: Details are shown of the proposed Regional Eurostar timetable. It is expected that these services, already much delayed, will start during the winter period.
Table 10: There will be a slight reduction in the London - Paris Eurostar service for the winter. There may be further changes from December 14.
Tables 11/13: There will be a new Lille Lyon - Toulouse TGV, and also a once-weekly train between Lille and Toulouse via Bordeaux. Due to the continuing expansion of TGV services from Brussels and Lille via Charles de Gaulle airport to other parts of France, the night trains have been removed from Table 11 and will now be found in Table 13. The Flandres Riviera will run daily between Lille and Ventimiglia, extended to and from Calais on three days per week.
Table 12: The London - Brussels Eurostar service will not change until December 14, when there will be additional journeys and a reduction in journey time to approximately 2 hours 40 minutes thanks to the new Lille - Brussels line.
Table 16: This ski-train table has been renumbered 49 (see below).
Tables 20/22: Trains between Hamburg and København will be retimed. The Nord Express will also be retimed and will run from Köln instead of Oostende, losing its sleeper from Paris in the process. The train will be classified EN and north of Hamburg will be rerouted via the Great Belt link (bridge and tunnel), which opened in June. As in previous years, the Donauwalzer will run from Brussels instead of Oostende during the winter. There will be significant alterations from December 14 (also affecting Tables 21 and 25) with the introduction of Thalys trains to Köln and the speeding up of London Brussels Eurostar services.
Table 25: This is another table valid only to December 13. After this date, the two EC trains currently running between Paris and Köln via Namur will be withdrawn, and all daytime journeys between Paris and Köln will therefore be provided by the new Thalys service via Brussels. Namur and Charleroi will be served by new services to Paris.
Table 41: There are many changes to this table as the Paris - Basel service will be largely recast. Train 114/5 L'Arbalète will be cut back to run between Paris and Basel instead of Zürich owing to the introduction of a Paris Gare de Lyon - Zürich TGV train via Pontarlier and Bern (Table 42) running at approximately the same time and with a similar journey time to the old train via Basel.
Table 42: This table has also altered considerably. Some of the Paris - Lausanne TGV trains will be retimed and, as mentioned above, there will be a daily Paris - Bern - Zürich TGV train. The Frasne - Bern trains, which connect with TGVS to and from Paris, will also be retimed, and will be routed via Biel between Neuchâtel and Bern. One of these trains will provide a new early morning Paris - Bern connection.
Table 49: This winter-only table (formerly numbered 16) shows the winter sports trains from London, Brussels and northern France to the Savoie area. A new feature will be a through Eurostar train between London Waterloo and Bourg St Maurice running on Saturdays during the winter sports season.
Table 50: The København - Hamburg service will be recast with consequent alterations to connections to and from other parts of Scandinavia. There will no longer be a through København - Hamburg - Berlin train. The Trelleborg - Sassnitz train- ferries will use the nearby port of Mukran instead of Sassnitz from January 7, which means that the Malmö - Berlin trains will no longer call at Sassnitz Hbf.
The September - October edition of the Thomas Cook Overseas Timetable is now available. This covers surface transport for the rest of the world outside Europe. A new Thomas Cook guidebook entitled Where to Ski and Snowboard has also been published, with details of facilities and pistes in 1000 resorts. This book has been described by Frank Barrett, the Mail on Sunday's Travel Editor, as "the best ski guide ever published". Further details of this and our other publications are shown at the back of this book.
