今月のお知らせ
本号に掲載されている鉄道サービスは、ほとんどが9月25日まで有効ですが、各国編の冒頭や各Table にあるように、それ以降も有効なものも多くあります。また、今月から「Winter International Supplement」が32ページに拡大されました。これは、9月26日から有効なTable 10～68（Table 90も含む）の冬バージョンを含んでおり、タイムテーブルの後ろの525～556ページに掲載されています。主な変更点は、このページの下段に記載されています。
今月の特集は「高速鉄道」で、35ページから40ページにかけて掲載されています。日頃からご愛読いただいている皆様には、隔月で6つのトピックを取り上げた特集が組まれていることをご存知でしょうか。今回の特集では、カートレインの詳細を掲載したTable 1、Table 2を42ページに1ページでまとめています。また、1ページ目には特集の一覧も掲載されており、購読者の皆様には参考資料としてご活用いただければと思います。
8月22日、ノルウェーでは大幅なダイヤ改正が行われ、多くの路線で運行本数の改善と所要時間の短縮が行われました。関連するTable は10月末日まで更新されています。11月1日からは、オスロ・クリスチャンサン線に、わずか4時間の新型傾斜列車「Signatur」が導入され、さらに便利になります。
スペインのローカル線列車の詳細な時刻表がようやく届き、今月のTableに反映されました。多くの路線で変更があるため、ローカル列車を利用する旅程は再確認が必要です。ポルトガルも最新の時刻表で確認しましたが、ローカル線に大幅な変更がありました。
フランスの一部の路線で8月30日から時刻表が変更され、パリ～ボルドー・イルン/タルブ（Table 300/2）、パリ～トゥール（Table 295）、パリ～バーゼル（Table 380）などがあります。Table 294 パリ～オルレアンは出発便の一覧からより詳細なTable へと拡張され、これとTable 295がより多くの列車を表示するように拡張した結果、多くの小規模Table を移動、番号変更されました。
ウィーン - ブラチスラバ間にキッツェー経由の新サービスが導入されたにもかかわらず、旧マルケッグ経由の旅も可能であり（列車を乗り換える）、これはTable 996に追加されました。
ラトビアとリトアニアの最新スケジュールが届きました。また、ウクライナ、モルドバ、ロシア、ベラルーシのセクションも更新されましたが、これらの国内便については、まだ公式情報が不足していますので、現地で確認されることをお勧めします。
ギリシャでは、1998 - 99年版の時刻Table がまだ有効であると思われますが、急遽変更される可能性があります。
1999年8月21日に開通予定だったストックホルムからアーランダ空港への新しい鉄道接続（Table 747）の開通日はまだ決まっていません。しかし、この路線は急遽開通する可能性がある。
現在、ハンガリーでは特に工事が盛んなようで、駅には臨時変更のお知らせが掲示されていますが、出発Table は必ずしも更新されていませんので、ご注意ください。また、ブダペスト南駅は一時的に閉鎖される可能性がありますが、その日時は未定です。先月のニュースラインでお伝えしたように、現在ハンガリーからユーゴスラビアのノヴィ・サドまでは多くの便が通っていますが、ノヴィ・サドから先は川の橋が再建されるまで復旧は不可能とのことです。さらに、ティミショアラ - ベオグラード間で列車が再び走っている可能性があるとの情報もある（Table 1365）。しかし、クロアチアとユーゴスラビアの間のサービスに関する情報は得られておらず、編集部では復便の可能性に関する情報を歓迎しています。ブダペスト - ブクレシュティ - テッサロニキのトランスバルカン号が10月30日までしか運行されないことが明らかになりました。この列車は、ベオグラード経由のヘラス急行の代わりとして導入されたものです。
9月6日から26日にかけて、Hoverspeed社がドーバー - オーステンデ間航路の時刻を変更することを発表しました。52ページのTable 12は更新されましたが、情報の入手が遅かったため、528ページの海運部門（Table 2112）およびTable 12（冬）を変更することができませんでした。また、8月1日からチェルナ・ナド・チソウ - サトゥ・マーレ間の列車（Table 1725）が運休となりました。 トーマスクック海外時刻Table 9月10月版（世界各地をカバー）を掲載しました。最新の時刻Table 変更のほか、今号では東南アジアの特集が組まれています。
9月26日からの冬期サービス
以下は、525～556ページの冬期国際列車追加情報であり、例年生じる定期変更は含まれません。ロンドン - パリ間のユーロスターは、3月23日まで表示されるようになりました。ユーロスター・スキー列車は昨年と同様に運行され、Table 49に示されています。
フランスの冬期ダイヤは11月28日まで開始されないため、Winter Supplementの一部のフランスの時刻表は11月27日までしか有効ではありません。
アントウェルペン中央駅の改築に伴い、Table 18のアムステルダム - ブリュッセルの各時間帯の列車は、土曜と日曜にのみ同駅に停車します。それ以外の日は、アントウェルペン・ベルケム駅をご利用ください。これは、ユーロスター・サービスに接続する列車を含むTable 15にも影響します。タリスのサービスには、11月28日からブリュッセルとマルヌ・ラ・ヴァレー（ディズニーランド行き）間の列車が追加され、シャルル・ド・ゴール空港にも途中停車するようになりました（Table 11）。11月28日からパリ - チューリッヒ間のTGV２便目が導入され、パリ - ローザンヌ間の時刻が変更されます（Table 42）。
What's new this month
The rail services in this edition are mostly valid to September 25, although many are valid beyond this date as shown at the start of each country section or on individual tables. The Winter International Supplement has been expanded to 32 pages this month. This contains winter versions of Tables 10 to 68 (also Table 90) valid from September 26, and will be found at the back of the timetable on pages 525 to 556. The main changes are described at the foot of this page. Our special feature this month covers the topic of High- Speed Trains and will be found on pages 35 to 40. Regular readers will know that our features appear every other month covering six different topics, each of which will be updated on an annual basis. In these editions Tables 1 and 2, which contain details of Car Carrying Trains, are reduced to a single page summary on page 42. A list of feature topics appears on page 1, and it is hope that subscribers will retain these editions as a source of reference.
August 22 saw the introduction of a major schedule change in Norway, with improved frequencies and shorter journey times on many lines. Relevant tables have been updated to the end of October. From November 1 the Oslo Kristiansand route will further benefit by the introduction of new tilting Signatur trains taking just 4 hours.
Detailed timings for local Regionales trains in Spain have finally been received and incorporated into our tables this month. There are changes on many lines and itineraries involving local trains should be rechecked. Portugal has also now been checked from the latest timetable, which includes extensive changes to local services.
Certain routes in France changed their timetables from August 30, including Paris - Bordeaux Irún/Tarbes (Tables 300/2), Paris - Tours (Table 295) and Paris - Basel (Table 380). Table 294 Paris - Orléans has been expanded from a list of departures to a more detailed table, and this, together with the expansion of Table 295 to show more trains, has led to a number of smaller tables being moved and renumbered. Despite the new service between Wien and Bratislava via Kittsee, it is still possible to make the journey via the old Marchegg route (with a change of train) and this has been added to Table 996.
Up-to-date schedules have now been received for Latvia and Lithuania. Further updates have also been made to our sections covering Ukraine, Moldova, Russia and Belarus, though we are still lacking some official information for internal services in these countries, so local confirmation is still advisable. In Greece the old 1998-99 timetable is believed to be still in force, but changes may be made at short notice. We still do not have an opening date for the new rail link from Stockholm to Arlanda Airport (Table 747) which was originally due to open on August 21. However, the line could open at short notice.
Engineering work seems to be particularly rife in Hungary at the moment, and passengers should be aware that although notices showing temporary changes are often displayed at stations, departure sheets are not always updated. Warnings have been added to certain of our tables (particularly Table 1170 where trains towards Bratislava and Praha may leave Budapest early) but it should also be noted that Budapest Déli may be closed for a period, although we have not been notified of dates. As mentioned in last month's Newslines, a number of services now run through from Hungary to Novi Sad in Yugoslavia, but reinstatement beyond Novi Sad will not be possible until the river bridge has been reconstructed. Further reports suggest that trains may now be running again between Timişoara and Beograd (Table 1365). However, we have not received any information about services between Croatia and Yugoslavia and the Editor would welcome any news of possible reinstatements. It has now been clarified that the Budapest - Bucureşti - Thessaloniki Transbalkan will run until October 30 only. This train was introduced to replace the Hellas Express which ran via Beograd.
As we were going to press, Hoverspeed announced revised timings for its Dover - Oostende crossings for the period September 6- 26. Table 12 on page 52 has been updated but the information was received too late to alter the Shipping section (Table 2112) or Table 12 (Winter) on page 528. Further late news is that the Čierna nad Tisou - Satul Mare train (Table 1725) was cancelled from August 1. The September October edition of the Thomas Cook Overseas Timetable, covering the rest of the world, is now available. As well as the latest timetable changes, this edition also includes a feature on South-East Asia.
Winter services from September 26
The following refers to the Winter International Supplement on pages 525 to 556, and does not include normal seasonal changes. London - Paris Eurostar services are now shown through to March 23. The Eurostar Ski-Trains will run. on a similar basis to last year and are shown in Table 49. As the French winter timetable does not commence until November 28, certain French timings in the Winter Supplement are valid to November 27 only. Due to the reconstruction of Antwerpen Centraal station, the hourly Amsterdam - Brussels trains in Table 18 will call there only on Saturdays and Sundays. On other days passengers should use Antwerpen Berchem station. This also affects Table 15 which includes those trains which connect with Eurostar services. Changes to Thalys services include the introduction from November 28 of additional trains between Brussels and Marne la Vallée (for Disneyland), also calling at Charles de Gaulle Airport (Table 11). A second Paris - Zürich TGV service will be introduced from November 28, and there will be changes to Paris - Lausanne timings (Table 42).
