Ameblo blog investigation
Police plan to establish a criminal case against 18 men and women on charges of allegedly posting a number of defamatory messages on a comedian’s blog, police sources said Thursday.
In launching what is believed to be the first such move associated with mass attacks on a blog in Japan, the Metropolitan Police Department said the 18 people, aged from 17 to 45, posted defamatory messages suggesting that the 37-year-old comedian is the perpetrator in the 1988 murder of a high school girl in Tokyo.
Some of the messages included: “How can a murderer be a comedian?” and “Die, you murderer,” according to police.
Investigators, acting on a complaint filed by the comedian, have identified those who posted the messages and decided to establish a criminal case against them, the sources said.
This is probably the first criminal case to be built over intense online attacks on a particular blog, the National Police Agency said.
REACTIONS:
1-What? It is illegal now to insult Japanese comedians? That is a whole new dimension to les majeste...
2-Smiley? Obviously another loud not so funny person. He must have a manzai partner. 18 people.? That is a hell of a lot of cardboard boxes for the police to be carrying out of the house. One box for the keitai battery charger, one for the spare battery, one for the keitai, one for his computer board...etc. etc. and the list goes on.
3-Japan does not have the first amendment. The Japanese constitution has no amendments. It does, however have Article 21, which guarantees free speech.
4-Japan does not have the first amendment. The Japanese constitution has no amendments. It does, however have Article 21, which guarantees free speech.
5-There is a whole bunch of Japanese politicians who have made public defamatory comments about my race and culture..... could I sue?
6-"If the police start reading JT I imagine they'll be "sending papers" every day."
What makes you think they don't?
Mil
Mil
Mil

Organ transplant in Japan
This is a very sensitive subject but most of people are not aware of. It may concern only few people (a thousand) but it is very serious problem. Transplant is very complicated operation and involved a complicated system:
-Need donors this is the most of challenging and complex operation.
-Need to transport as quickly as possible the organs for transplant.
-Need to check organe rejection.
Transplant also raises a number of bioethical issues, including the definition of death, when and how consent should be givenfor an organ to be transplanted and payments for organs for transplantation.
Recently a unique transplant of heart and lung was done in Osaka University (大阪大学) the first time in Japan surprised me. Compared with developed countries the transplant number in Japan is still small (In America about 2000 perations are carried every year)
It will take time before changing the actual law due to technical and "ethic" problem that has been always a hurdle for improving the existing laws.
Long long way to go but things can change if the people are more informed about the vertues of saving other people life by being donors themselves, ignore the absurde "ethical" excuse that nobody undetstands, overcome the technical handicap that put Japan scientists far from their peers in other countries.
While this may take time most of the actual patients are heading to other countries looking for a donor and this is so sad.
