本日の超頻出便利英語： 「懐かしく思う」
お疲れ様です。
筆者、本日釣りに関する仕事をしまして、
釣りをしないので知らない言葉が次々出てきて
いろいろ勉強になりました。
「シャクリ」
と言う釣り用語がありまして、
餌を生きてるっぽく見せてサカナにアピールするテクの一つなのですが、
ないとは思いながらもまあ一応英日辞書を調べましたら
「hiccup」
って言われてしまい、独りでモニターに向かって
「ソレ、”しゃっくり”やないかーーーい！！」
と、ド突っ込みするなど、愉快な職場です（独りですが）。
昔、会社で仕事していたときはこんなんで仲間と盛り上がって
そのうち偉い人に怒られたりしてもっともっと楽しかったです。
と思うと懐かしかったことです。

Today I worked on something that was related to a fishing reel.
Since I'm not an angler, I encountered dozens of words I didn't know.
So, I'm that much wiser now than yesterday.
(It's about Japanese-English translation and very hard to write
in English and make readers understand what the problem was. I'll try.)
Some of you might know the term
"shakuri"
which in English means jerking the line to lure fishes by imitating the
motions of live bait fish.
I knew this kind of jargons couldn't be found in dictionaries,
but I looked up this word anyway in an on-line English-Japanese dictionary,
which said
"hiccup."
Well, I don't know what the problem is with the dictionary, but
hiccup is "shakkuri" in Japanese.
Only one "k" different, but very different in meaning.
Alone at my desk in my apartment, I couldn't help raising my voice
when I said
"That's SHAKKURI, idiot!!"
It was funny, but would have been so much funnier if
this had happened in my old workplace where I had colleagues.
We used to find this kind of funny stuff here and there
and laugh a lot, causing our sperior come to our cubicle
to complain about the noise we were making.
I miss that.
