昨日、お墓に行って、草抜きを半分して
力尽きて帰ってきたら、今日は首が痛いのだ。
２時間もしゃがんで下向いているのは、首に良くないのだな。
その草抜き中のことだが、近所のお墓に初老の夫婦が
来ていて、傍らに人無きが如し、そう、傍若無人なまでに
大声でしゃべっていて、しかもなぜかその辺を二人で歩きまくって
他人のお墓を探っているので、ヘンな夫婦だなあと思っていたのだが、
とうとう、夫の方が筆者のところへやってきて尋ねることには、
「カラスがいたずらしてまへんか？」
というのだ。してまへんけど、と答えると、
「この頃、カラスが花入れを抜いてどっかへ持って行きよるらしい。」
という。
墓石とか地面に刺さっているお花を挿す筒を、カラスが抜いては
どっか違うところへ置いてくるというのだ。
しかも、遊びで、なのだという。
このご夫婦のとこのお墓の花入れも盗られたらしい。
「この辺の墓、みんなやられてますねんで！」
だそうだ。本当だろうか？
カラス、そんなことして何が楽しいのだ。さっぱり共感できない。
ウチの花入れは墓石をくり抜いてあるヤツなので、無事だった。
そういえば、以前ゴルフの打ちっぱなしの近くに住んでいる友人が
カラスがゴルフボールを運んできて友人宅のベランダに落とす、
ということをするので大変危ないのだ、と言っていたことがある。
面白いかもしれないが、危険すぎるからやめろ、カラス。
そのうち花入れ筒やゴルフボールを上空から人間めがけて
落とし、当たった数を競う、というような恐ろしい遊びを
しだすのではないだろうか。
カラスがふとそんなゲームを思いついたりしませんように。
墓地に生えた雑草たち：

I have this weird idea that they might invent a terrible game some day
in which they drop something from the sky aiming people and the crow
who hits more people wins.
I pray no crow would come up with that game.
