On the middle day of a 3-day weekend, I went surf fishing at Kujukuri Beach on Sunday.

Yesterday, we had a family barbecue as part of our family service, so I couldn't go fishing. The final day of the 3-day weekend seems to have rain all day, so it's the last chance.

The day before, I had to do yard work like mowing the lawn and taking care of the plants after the barbecue, so my body was in a very tough condition. But somehow, I managed to wake up at 4 o'clock, leave at 5, and start fishing at 6.

Today's tide was low tide. Since low tide is at 5 o'clock, I thought it would be a good time to start fishing when the tide is just starting to move. I don't know the reason, but the wind has been strong here lately, so the waves were relatively high, and surfers were gathered, playing with the waves.

On this day as well, I started fishing with my usual Silent Assassin. I attached a suitable thickness leader of 30lb to PE1.5 line, and when I cast it, there was a slight tailwind from behind, making it fly far and feel good.

However, the sinking type didn't swim much at a slow retrieval speed, and at a normal winding speed, I couldn't feel the vibration, and it didn't feel like I was fishing. So I switched to floating and cast silently.

There was no pattern of catching fish early as usual, and I thought, "Oh, today might be tough," but I kept casting relentlessly while moving between points of offshore flow.

The autumn wind was blowing, and I felt a bit of coldness around my neck, but my feet inside the waders were not yet cold enough to be felt, I didn't sweat, and the weather was conducive to fishing.

After a while, the wind from behind on the left-rear side started to become strong, blowing towards the right-front direction. Since it was a tailwind from behind, the lure itself flew nicely, but the line was swept to the right, and even if I cast it straight and reeled it in, the lure kept coming back from the right.

Since the line entered horizontally, there was a possibility of getting caught when surfers entered the water, so I had to be cautious while fishing.

I continued to cast the same Silent Assassin floating lure until 9 o'clock, but there was no sign of any bites. I thought about changing the lure and switched to the Hot Sands Metal Drive.

I had been using it for a while, and it still hadn't caught anything, and the hook was rusty and worn out...

It flew nicely and I could feel the vibration of the lure while reeling it in. Even if I cast it straight, the lure would come back in a zigzag shape, so I positioned myself on the left side of the offshore flow and continued to cast for about 30 minutes. Bam! I felt a strong pull.

It seemed to have coincided with the current of the offshore flow, and it was quite a strong pull! I thought, "I got one!" and joyfully kept reeling in. What I confirmed was a flatfish(Soge) of about 40cm.

Alright, I escaped the skunk! But the shore was far away due to the shallow water. By the time it got closer to me, I had no strength to resist, and I was being dragged like a current, so I didn't relax and guided it without applying tension. Then, splash! The hook came off in vain, and the flatfish swam away...

It was a small Soge, but it was a heartbreaking miss... The value of one catch in surf fishing is significant...

After that, I continued fishing without giving up until 11 o'clock, but as expected, no bites.

Maybe the hook was rusty, and I had forcibly removed it when it got snagged in the past, so the hook in the back had spread, and that might have affected the hooking. Taking care of your equipment is important.

So, in four surf fishing sessions at Kujukuri, I caught 2 fish, lost 1, and had 1 skunk. Well, the size hasn't been great, but compared to when I was in Fukuoka, I think I'm catching relatively well.
