condense

先日，アルバイト先で condensed という単語を見つけて日本語がすぐに出てこなかったので，今回はこの単語を取り上げます。

『ジーニアス英和辞典』で condense /kənˈdens/ を調べてみると；

1 ＜気体＞を〔に〕凝縮［凝結］する，液化する〔into，to〕

2 ＜液体＞を濃くする，濃縮する

3 ＜文章・話など＞を〔･･･に〕要約する，短縮する〔into，to〕

とありました。

LDOCEでは；

1 if a gas condenses, or is condensed, it becomes a liquid

2 to make something that is spoken or written shorter, by not giving as much detail or using fewer words to give the same information

3 to make a liquid thicker by removing some of the water

と定義されていました。

コンデンスミルクという単語は知っていましたがカタカナ語で理解していたので，今回調べたことで日本語として理解する良い機会となりました。（Maru）
