英会話 発音を間違えたことで真面目な話が下ネタに。

先日アメリカ人の先生から聞いた面白い話。ちょっと下ネタになるけど、

面白かったから共有せずにはいられない。

校長先生をしていたニューヨーク在住のアメリカ人の先生は、

日本のビジネスマンに英会話をオンラインで教えている。

先日いつものごとく、今日は何について話したい？とある

ビジネスマンにきいたそう。

そのビジネスマンは、ビジネスマンらしい返答。

「アメリカの大統領選挙について話したいんだけど・・・　→I would like to discuss Presidential election.

といったつもりが、　ＬとＲの発音を間違えて、Presidential erection.   erection ・・・と言ったそう。（笑）

あえて意味はここには書かないけど、まじめな話が一気に下ネタに。笑

笑える話だが、日本人の一番の英語の間違いはＲとＬの

発音という回答はよくネィティブからきく。

一つ発音を間違えるだけで、まったく違う意味になるから気を付けたいものだ。

ひとのことは言えない

数日前オジャマップをテレビで見た。

いろんな社長さんの家を

訪問してたので豪華絢爛なご自宅を見ることができた。

中には博物館なみの装飾品や絵が飾ってあったり、

言うまでもなく我が家と全然違う。笑

まあ、我が家のアンティークと言えばこの旦那のレコードくらいだろう。

そしていつも思うのだが、テレビで一般の人が出ると、お正月並みに

血縁関係の人がミーハー心で集合すているような気がするのは

私だけだろうか。一家全員揃いました、みたいな感じでスクリーンの

人口密度が非常に高い。

そんな私も、今日母が奈良テレビに映るということで、取材があるらしく

偶然を装って実家へ取材現場を見に来た。

テレビ映りに自信がないといいながら、なんだかいつもより顔が白く見える母。

他の映りには自信があるのだろうか。

取材陣が男性4人くらいで来られたのだが、軽く挨拶をし

取材の隣の部屋でこっそり盗み聞きしながらタイピングを一人楽しむ

このひと時。> Yesterday, I watched a TV program named Ojamapwhere stars visit the general people’s house. At the time of watching, they visited some executive houses so I enjoyed seeing their gorgeous houses. Some of their interiors are decorated with pictures to the same level as the museums, and needless to say, they are totally different from ours. hehe. I would say that my husband's records are the only antique in my place.

Whenever I watch these kinds of TV program, I think of the general people shown on TV where all of their relatives are assembling in one place as if they are acting like fan boys or fan girls. What do you think? Am I the only one thinking this way? Relative families flock in number as they come and gather together.

On the other hand, I visited my mother who would have an interview for a TV show. I was there but I pretended not to bother. She said she was not confident about what she looks like on TV, though her face looks whiter thanusual. I wonder whether she is confident in other aspects.

Four men were there to cover the show and I said, 'hi' to them.  I was in the room next to their room and I enjoyed listening to their conversation in private.

小学生の男のが毎回のレッスンで私が

How are you today?ときくと普通の解答(I ' m fine とか　good, とか）に飽きたのか

毎回変わった答えを用意してくる。

今日は筋肉痛とか、おなかがちょっと痛いとか・・・笑

いろいろネタもつきてきたっぽいので、ネィティブしか使わないような表現を

教授することに。

 ①'How are you today?'

   ' I am  right as rain.'

　     right as rain= he's okay,

                              it's okay.

                              situation is okay.

  ②'How are you today?'

     'I am on  top of the world '

     on top of the world. = feeling very excited.

　　カーペンターズの曲でこんなのあったような。

       

  ③’Where is John today.？'

     'Oh, he;s under the weather.'

    under the weather　＝ not feeling very well　

    まあ、これは大人同士で使う言葉らしい。

おそらくイギリス人にきいたから　Very Britishなアンサーだろう。

子供に夢の叶え方を教える 実践編

５歳の姪っ子に将来の夢はアイドル。
アイドルになってみんなにキャンディを配ったりしたいらしい。

もし将来自分が何になりたいか決めたなら、自分のことを信じてがんばれば、すべてあなたの望んでいるようになるよ、ということをいった。

あとはまるで自分がアイドルのように毎日生きること。ただ思っているよりも実践が大切だよ。と言った。

さっそくじゃあ実践してみようか。まず、順ちゃんにキャンディーの代わりにジュースを持ってきてくれる？

「うん。」一つ返事で冷蔵庫にとことこ向かった。
渡すときはアイドルのように満面の笑顔でね。

私もジュースをもってきてもらえてハッピー、Ｆｕちゃんもアイドルになったみたいでハッピー。
俗にいうwin-winの関係だね。
「ウィンナー？」
子供は素直でかわいい。

My five year old niece's dream is to be an idol in the future.
She wanted to give some candies to her fans when she finally made her dreams come true.
I told her that if she decides what she wants to become in the future, she should believe in herself and everything she wished for will be hers.
And she should live like an idol everyday.
I advised her that doing actions is better than just thinking about what to do.
I encouraged her by telling her what to do, first I asked her to bring a glass of juice.... instead of candies.
She said "yes" and walked heavily towards that refrigerator to get the juice.
I asked her to give me a hundred smiles just like a star while handing the juice to me.
I thanked her happily for the juice, and I can also see that she is very happy because she can somehow make her dreams into reality.
As the saying goes, this is a win-win situation.
She even misunderstood the term winner for the word "sausage", because in japan, it means sausage.
I think children are so cute and amiable.

英語をしゃべれない人が海外で必死にレストランで注文すると。

新婚旅行から戻った友達の話。朝食ビュッフェで目玉焼きをオーダーしたかったのに、目玉焼きの英単語が出てこず、二人の手で丸を二つ作って目玉焼きを作ったらしい。笑　想像すると面白い。おそらく新婚旅行初の二人の共同作業だろう。英語は必要だと言われているが旅行ではしゃべれないくらいのほうが、おもしろ体験ができるかもしれない。

そんな彼女からもらったお土産のチョコ。スペイン、イタリア、近隣のコンビニでゲットした日本産を食べ比べ。どこの国もおいしい。

天にも昇る気持ちだ。　

この話を友人に話したらまた味のある話をしてくれた。

彼女の友人のコリアンカップルはビーフとチキンのスープをシンガポールで注文した際、単語を忘れ、チキンとビードとい言ったが、ウェイターは推測しようとしたがわからなかったそう。

なので彼女は手で手羽先を作り、ウェイターは「オー、チキンね！」と言った。

一方男性のほうはビーフをオーダーするのに「モーモー」と言って牛の鳴きまねをしたそう。「ああ、ビーフね！」とウェイターは言った。とのこと。

上には上がいるものだ。

海外での面白体験はつきない。

This is a story of my friend  who has just came back from her honeymoon.

She wanted to order a sunny-side up but the words never come OUT, so my friend and her husband made two circles with their hands and gestured it. hehe.

Come to think of it,  I cannot help but laugh. That might be a first collaborative work as married couple.Speaking English is must-have item but I think people who cannot speak the language fluently could have more intriguing experience than people who can speak it fluently. 

Here are the souvenir chocolates from her. I am trying to eat Spain, Italy,and Japanese chocolates from a neighborhood convenience store. All of them are really good. When I am eating that, I'm walking on air.

I talked to my another friend about this story and she told me another funny story.

A Korean couple went to a noodle house in Singapore to order chicken and beef soup.
As they order they They had forgotten the English words  for "chicken and beed". The waiter was trying to guess it but he didn't succeed.
So the woman started to do hand gestures imitating chicken wings.
The waiter said "Oh chic-ken!"
The man on the other hand wants to order beef and so he made a sound of a cow. "Me, Mooo!"
 The waiter have guessed it at last and said, "Be-eeF!"

There is always someone worse off. hehe

When we travel, we always have fun experiences.

お疲れ様を英語で

お仕事を終わった時にいう、「お疲れ様です。」

英語では直接的な意味はないので、

昔英会話スクールで働いていた時も

上司が帰らないと帰りずらい空気の日本人スタッフが働いている

さなか、さわやかに外人の先生がよく日本語でＯｔｕｋａｒｅｓａｍａｄｅｓｕ～と日本語で

去って行ったものです。笑

There is no direct translation.

IN English, you would probably say :

あえていうなら→ Thanks so much for your hard work.

  But this is not said often.

でもあまり言わないようですね。

あな雪 rage on は、電子レンジオンじゃない。

今話題のアナ雪のLet it go.

この曲が好きという生徒さんが多くて授業でも

歌う練習をしています。

先日あるユニークな小学生の生徒さんが

歌詞の、Let the storm rage on ～

のところの　rage on を　レンジオン～　と聞こえたらしく

電子レンジオンと思い、ボタンを押すジェスチャーつきで楽しげにうたった。

ちなみにレンジは　microwave で

rage は very angry 荒れるとか、暴れるといった意味。

まあ、雪の世界では寒いから、電子レンジオンして

温かいものを食べたくなる気持ちはわからないでもない。

スタバでの若者の会話

As I was enjoying my coffee in Starbucks. I overheard two twenty-somethings searching the internet for jobs. I did my best to keep a poker face, but I could hardly contain my laughter. These two (maybe recent graduates) were looking for the ideal job, but all they did was complain about how much hard work it sounded. The youth of today hey?

掃除をしてたら、昔買ったバレンタイン限定のスタバパペットがでてきました。

ちょっと汚れてるから選択？しようかな。

スタバ新製品 ジャンククッキーフラペチーノ

東京に住んでる友達がスタバのバナナフラペチーノいつも売り切れで飲めないっていってたけど、奈良では余裕？で飲めてしまう。東京はなんでも争奪戦やな。ほとんどコーヒーしか頼まないけど、今日は暑いからなんか冷たいのにしようかと思ったら、口が習慣化してて勝手に意思とは裏腹に気づけばホットコーヒー。席について5分後、暑いなと思いながらホット飲んでたら、笑顔の店員さんが、来週からでる新製品の試食もってきてくれた。ジャンククッキーフラペチーノという名前らしい。温かい笑顔と冷たい飲み物で火照った体が緩和されたひと時。
