なんか、相変わらず結弦君が登場すると凄いことになっているよね。

Number（あ、plusの方の話題じゃないよ）のブライアンのインタビューだけど、内容そのものあれこれってわけじゃないけど、個人的に心に残っている部分の話題。

In a magazine “Sports Graphics Number” there’s Brian’s interview, well introducing whole is not possible though, here some parts, Sarah is interested.

(not about "Number Plus" with Yuzu's cover, but regular issue.)

「コロナ以降は、彼が1人で試行錯誤しつつ、私たちは、練習動画を送ってもらってアイデアを話し合いました。」

「アドバイスした」とか、ましてや「指導した」という表現じゃないところが、なんか、結弦君とチームの関係を物語っているようだし、コーチでありつつも、どれほどチームが結弦君に敬意を持って接しているかもうかがい知れるんじゃないかな。（実際、ブライアンがどの単語を使ったか知りたいけど、でもニュアンス的に一方的ではなく、双方から意見があれこれ出たという意味の言葉を記ッと使っていたんだと思う。）

“Under the pandemic situation, Yuzuru tried all by himself, after that he sent us videos, and we discussed our ideas.”

We know it, but here Brian is not using words such “advised” or “instructed” but “discussed” (actually, it was translated so, which word Brian said is not known though)

Somehow, from this phrase too, we can feel that they are not just a coaching team but with Yuzu they are kind of a strategic team. And from Brian talk, Sarah felt that they really respect Yuzu a lot.

で、ずっと先の方になるけど、ブライアンはこんなことも言っていて。

「ソチ五輪の頃はまだ、僕や振付師、そのほかのコーチに言われた通りに行動するという選手でした。しかし2度目の五輪に向けては、今度はユヅルが船頭になってチームを率いていく体制へと変化していきました。受け身で練習するような選手では五輪連覇はかなわなかったと思います。」

ピョンチャンの頃には、もうチーム・ブライアンというよりチーム・ハニューになっていたともいえるんじゃない？いずれにしても、オリンピックで金メダルと獲るという時には、ある意味がむしゃらに、ただただコーチ陣を信じて突っ走ればよかったかもしれない。（そうする力や能力、そしてオリンピックに向けての強い気持ちがあったし、結弦君には。）でも、2連覇となると、実力だけではなく並外れたメンタルが必要となるだろうし、メンタルをケアするチームがいたとしても、最終的には自分との闘い。そうなると、やっぱり単に受け身じゃなく、自分から自分の進むべき道を見定められる人じゃなければ、連覇は達成できないってことだよね。そしてそういう力が結弦君には備わっていた。（努力して備えた。）

もう1つは、そうした時代が、結果としてコロナ禍で1人になった時、（挫折するような時間があったとしても）ずっと自分の進む方向に向かって頑張る準備段階にもなっていたのでは。

Then, in the other part, Brian also said;

“For Sochi, Yuzuru was a skater who just listened to us, or the choreographer, and he just did what we ordered. But in the second Olympics, Yuzu was already the leader of our team, and he led us, our team has changed in to such system, I think. However a skater in a passive manner can’t win the consecutive Olympic gold, I believe.”

Yeah, here Brian clearly told that before PyeongChang, Team Brian has already changed to “Team Hanyu”.

To win an Olympic gold, just working hard as much as possible and listening to instruction and doing what he was told, all those might work very well.

However for the second time, now before his skills, what Yuzu was needed to be equipped must be a truly strong mentality. There must be also team members who take care skaters’ mentalities though, whatever, at the final stage what is needed his own will. Yuzu was already equipped such tough but thorough mentality.

So that he might be so clear what was his goal.

However, having such experience must also worked a lot for Yuzu when he came back to Japan due to the pandemic. Started practicing all by himself, all these Olympic experiences must help Yuzu.

ブライアンのインタビューを読んでいると、彼らの信頼関係がうかがい知れるのと同時に、結弦君って、周囲に敬意を持ちつつも、同時に常に自分の気持ちを大切にし、何よりも自分の進むべき方向が常にしっかりと心にあったんだなぁって（ま、結弦君の性格を考えれば当然！ってことだけど）そんなことをぼんやりと思いながらブライアンのインタビューを呼んでいたサラでした。

In the interview, each and every word of Brain tells that Yuzu and the team have a very intimate relationship, at the same time, how strong Yuzu’s will, desires toward his goal is.
