試練大好き、やっほ～い！ Teals & Eurasian Wigeon

カラフルなおっさんと、シックな女子。

冬鳥さんたちを見ているとね、な～んでこの子たち、自ら試練の人生を進んでいるんだろ？

って、怠け者のサラは驚くばかりなんだよね。

A colourful male and a lady in chic.

Looking at migratory birds, since Sarah is a lazy one, really amazing why they take such difficulties.

冬鳥さんたちって、三島に到着したころは、男子と女子の見分けが難しい子が多いのよね。

おっさんたちの（あ、お兄さんカモ？←「かも」😁）羽、地味で性別不明な子が多いんだけど、ここにいる間にみるみるカラフルになっていくのね。

（カラフルじゃない時期のオスの羽をエクリプス（蝕）って呼ぶんだけど）

When these birds arrive in Mishima, it's usually difficult to find who is a male or female.

Since males have almost the same plumage (eclipse), but while staying here, their plumage become coloourful.

試練って、思うのはね、だって、鳥さんたち、すっごい数の羽をもっているでしょ。

オオハクチョウさんなんて2万5千以上の羽だっていうし、カモさんたちがどのくらいかわからないけど、やっぱりすっごい数の羽をもっているでしょ。

でね、色気づく・・・あ、いえ、あの、カラフルな羽になる時って、羽の色が変わるんじゃなくって、生え変わるわけよ（換羽）。

They have Summer plumage and Winter plumage.

They got countless of feathers, just heard that Swans got more than 25 thousand feathers, no idal how many feathers these water birds have though, it must be also amazing number.

Feathers' colours don't change but they molt all feathers twince a year.

ってかさ、渡り鳥さんたちって、ジェット機での移動距離を年2回自分の翼で旅するじゃない。

もう、その行為自体「試練」としか呼べないけど、その命がけの旅、自分の翼に命を託しているわけじゃない。なのに、その大事な羽をいとも簡単に、年2回、すっかり生え変えちゃうって、どこまで試練が好きなの？（いやいや、好き嫌いの問題じゃないんだけどね・・・）

You know, they tavel some thousand km twice a year, we travel that distance by a jet, but they travel only with their wings, oh my goodness!

This activity itself is already amazingly brave but, they change their feathers also twice a year. Their plumage can be called their life, but so easily they change them.

Really challenging guys!!!!

羽は、メスも生え変わるんだけど、メスはさ、卵産んで、子育てして・・・

エネルギーめっちゃ使うのに。

羽、抜けて新しい羽が生えるのに、すっごいエネルギーが必要なわけでしょ。

繁殖期終わって、子育てで、狂いそうに忙しい中、換羽・・・身も心もくったくっただろうね。

Not only males but also females too, they molt all feathers.

Female consume lot energy to lay eggs, grow babies. . .

Further more they have to consume more energy to change their plumage.

Oh my! really hard workers!!!

あ、愛しいヒドリガモさん！

繁殖期におっさんたち、命がけでプロポーズして、女子は命がけで子育てして、で、命がけの渡りもしなきゃならない！

その上、この命がけの換羽！

やっぱさ、試練を好んでいるとしか思えないさ。立派！

Well, males works so hard to have a wife, and ladies work so hard to raise babies, and you know they are migratory birds so they have to travel!

So many hard work, but still more molting their plumage!

そうそう、このヒドリガモさんたち、なんで愛しいかっていうとね、3年前、たった1組のつがいだったのよ、初めて、サラが三島でヒドリガモさんを見つけた時。

それがね、去年は8羽だったかな・・・そ、増えたの。で、今年は、20羽（数えていない😁）ぐらいに増えているのよ！

Oh, these Wigeons, first time Sarah found them here in Mishima, only a couple, then the next year, 8 Wigeons came here, and this year, more? around 20!!!
