初冠雪の富士山＆男子は美しく！ Boys be Beautiful! (ヒドリガモ＆コガモ）

ニュースでご存知かと思うけど、昨日、富士山の初冠雪が発表された
yesterday, the first snowfall in this season on Mt. Fuji was announced official yesterday!

と、いうことで、今朝の三島からの富士山！
Mt. Fuji viewed in this morning from Mishima!

また、キンクロさん？いえ、今日は向こうにいる茶色い子たち

again, Tufted Ducks? no, today’s main characters are brown coloured birds over there

ヒドリガモさん、手前のおつむが濃い茶色の子がメスで、向こうでぼけている子が（は？いえ、写真がぼけているだけよ！本人はぼけてない！）オス

Wigeons, the one with dark brown head is a female and over there, not clearly shown though, that one is a male

なんか、ヒドリガモ君、色あせちゃってるよ～！

ちなみに、↑こちらは去年の12月の姿なんだけど、きれいでしょ？
カモさんたちって繁殖期が春で、で、夏になると色あせちゃう男子が多いのよ
この現象、エクリプスって呼ばれるんだけど

this photo was taken last year, the male got beautiful colours, many of male ducks lose their plumage colours, and become female-like appearance after breeding in Spring, this phenomenon is called “eclipse plumage”

「ねぇ、羽根のなかになんか隠していない？」

「なんか、もめてる？」あっ！誰かと思ったら、ちっちゃなコガモさん！

“fighting?” oh, a little duck, Eurasian Green-winged teal!

な～んか全員女子にも見えるけど、コガモの男子もこの時期女子の振りしている子が多いのよね

だから、ひょっとしたら男子がいるかも・・・
ヒドリガモさんと同じで、秋が深まるときれいになって、
あらま！男子だったのね～って子がいるのよ

looks all of them are females but as like Wigeon, male Green-winged Teals too, some of them look like females then in the mid-Autumn, their plumage become colourful
