外人枠でギリセーフ!?-実家無し海外在住者の日本滞在記 7日目

旅程7日目

前日から横浜3泊の予定である。

横浜2日目のこの日

我々には重大なミッションがあった。

今回の一時帰国のメインイベント

翌日に控えた姪の結婚式

この日に着る夫の服を

購入しなければならなかったのだ。

お気付きの方もいると思うが

夫はちょっと変わり者だ。

ほんの一例として夫は

その長い人生でただの一度も

ネクタイを締めたことはない。

故に初めてゲストとして

日本で参列する結婚式でも

ネクタイしない宣言をしていた。

このことでは出発前に揉めに揉め

航空券を予約した後で夫が

やっぱり行かないと言い出す始末。

だがしかし一晩経てば

言ったことすら忘れている

（かの様に振る舞う）

それが我が夫である。

外国人枠という事で

多少周りとズレていてもOK

という憶測の元

それでも普段着では失礼過ぎると

それなりの服を

日本で買うことに決めた。

夫は買い物が嫌いだ。

あまり長時間歩かせると

機嫌が悪くなるので

短期決戦でホテルから近い

横浜西口からスタート

ジョイナス、高島屋と見た後で

午前11時からオープンのVivreを覗く。

だがしかし高島屋を見た後

若者向けのVivreでは

どの商品も見劣りしてしまう。

どうせなら

長く着れるものをということで

高島屋のPapasに戻り

店員のお兄さんに相談しながら

あれこれ試着させて貰った。

夫がネクタイ嫌いである事も話し

ベストをジャケット代わりに着る

という提案を貰う。

年は取ったが

夫はまずまずのルックス

若いころはトム・クルーズ似と

言われたこともある。　

但しそれを言ったのは

たった二人ではあるのだが。

それでも妻の贔屓目もあり

夫とておしゃれなシャツに

ちょっとしたベストを着せたら

それなりになるのではと思っていた。

ところがである。

単色のベストを

夫に着せてみたところ

何故か『ファーストフード』

という言葉が

私の脳裏を過るのである。

後で気付いたことだが

その姿はカーネルサンダース

そのものであった。　

夫は数カ月前の手術で

大分痩せていたはずなのに

その後順調に回復し過ぎて

それまで以上に

恰幅が良くなっていたのだ。

単色のベスト案は無しだ。

切り返しのある

ユニークなデザインのベストなら

何とかなるかもしれない。

但し夫のサイズは無い。

別店舗に連絡してもらったところ

明日の朝には届くという。

ギリギリであるが仕方ない。

店員さんのお陰で

パンツとシャツと

ベストとベルトが決まり

翌朝取りに行くことになった。

次は私の番だ。

ドレスは一応NZから持って来たが

ノースリーブである。

バッグと靴はマスト

ノースリーブの腕を隠す

羽織物も必要だ。

だがこれらの買い物に

夫を付き合わせるつもりはない。

夫が楽しめるフロアを探し

集合場所と時間を決めて再集合。

再集合した時にはやっと靴が

見つかっただけだった。

場所を変えようと思ったが

夫は横浜は西口だけだと

思っている様だ。

東口方面に移動しようとすると

早速のブーイングである。

ランチをルミネで済ませて

みなとみらいに移動することにした。

一日中買い物だけというのは

私自身勿体ないと思ったのもある。

みなとみらいでは

夫の希望で日本丸を見学する。

その後ショッピングと思ったが

あまりにも広すぎて

少し歩いただけで

二人共疲れてしまった。

やはり多少でも勝手知ったる

横浜駅周辺に戻ろう。

こんなところで

夫に迷子になられたら

大変なことになる。

ラッキーなことに

Vivreはホテルから近い。

夫がホテルで休んでいる間に

Vivre でキラキラしたバッグを購入。

まだ羽織は見つかっていないが

最悪沖縄で買っていた

カーディガンがある。

段々と自分のことは

後回しになっている自分に気付く。

何だか子育て中のママみたいだ。

夫は夫で

「子どもと暮らしている気分」

と愚痴を漏らすことがあるのだが...。

その夜は横浜西口のお店を

ハシゴ酒する2人であった。

Day 7 of the trip

We were going to stay in Yokohama for three nights from the day before.

On the second day in Yokohama, we had an important mission.

The main event of this trip back to Japan was my niece's wedding the next day, and we had to buy clothes for my husband to wear on the day.

As some of you may have noticed, my husband is a bit of an oddball.

For example, he has never worn a tie once in his long life.

He declared that he would not wear a tie at the first wedding he would attend in Japan as a guest.

We had a lot of arguments about this before we left, and after we booked the plane tickets, my husband said he wasn't going after all.

But after one night, he had forgotten what he had said (or acted like it).

That's my husband.

We assumed that it was okay to be a little different from the others because he was in the foreign quota, but we decided that everyday clothes would be too rude, so we decided to buy some clothes in Japan.

My husband hates shopping. If I let him walk for too long, he gets angry, so I decided to start from Yokohama West Exit, which is close to the hotel, for a short trip. After visiting Joinus and Takashimaya, we went to Vivre, which opens at 11 am. However, after visiting Takashimaya, all the products at Vivre, which are aimed at young people, were inferior. We decided to buy something that he could wear for a long time, so we went back to Papas in Takashimaya and let him try on a few things while consulting with the shop associate. I also told him that my husband doesn't like ties, and he suggested wearing a vest instead of a jacket. Although he's old, my husband looks pretty good, and when he was young, he was told he looked like Tom Cruise. However, only two people said that. Still, I was kind of hoping that if I put a stylish shirt and a simple vest on him, he would look decent. But... When I tried on my husband a solid-colored vest, the word "fast food" came to my mind for some reason.

I realized later that he looked just like Colonel Sanders.

My husband had lost a lot of weight after his surgery several months ago, but he had recovered so well that he was even beefier than before.

A solid-colored vest was out of the question.

A vest with a unique contrasting design might work.

But they didn't have my husband's size.

The shop associate asked another store, and they said it would arrive tomorrow morning.

It was a tight deadline, but there was nothing we could do.

Thanks to the store clerk, we were able to decide on pants, a shirt, a vest, and a belt, and we decided to pick them up the next morning.

It was my turn next.

I brought the dress from NZ, but it was sleeveless.

A bag and shoes were a must, and I also needed a jacket to cover my sleeveless arms.

But I didn't intend to drag my husband along on these shopping trips.

We looked for a floor that my husband would enjoy, and decided on a meeting place and time.

By the time we met again, I had only just found my shoes.

We thought about changing the location, but my husband seemed to think that Yokohama only had the west exit.

When we tried to move towards the east exit, he wasn’t happy at all.

We decided to have lunch at Lumine and then move to Minato Mirai.

I also thought it would be a waste to just shop all day.

At Minato Mirai, my husband wanted to see the Nippon Maru.

After that, we thought about shopping, but it was so big that we were both tired after just a short walk.

We decided to go back to the area around Yokohama Station, which we were somewhat familiar with.

It would be a disaster if my husband got lost in a place like this.

Luckily, Vivre was close to the hotel.

While my husband was resting at the hotel, I bought a sparkly bag at Vivre.

I still hadn't found my jacket, but at worst I had a cardigan I had bought in Okinawa.

I gradually realized that I was putting my own needs on the back burner. I felt like a mother raising a child. My husband sometimes complains that he feels like he's living with his child though.

That night, the two of us went bar-hopping to bars in the west exit of Yokohama.
