Got to Peru-Lima-
As I posted the picture of the board, I carried a backpack with
hanging the board that tells how to pray for Japan to Peru.
I flew from NY to Bogota first, and then I transfered to the
other plane to Lima. I took me 9 hours...
Actually I was trying to correct some of a thousand paper cranes
on the way here, but I got felt bad on the plane, so I couldn't get
much...
Lima is pretty big city, and more urban than what I had imagined before.
I didn't walk around so much becuse I didn't feel good even get better.
So, I'll explore the city tomorrow.

These two guys are staying at the same room with me.

I'm using a pc at the hotel, and oviously it can't handle Japanese.
I'm typing Spanish keyboard and everything is showed in Spanish...
Oh, this sucks.

昨日考えたんですが．．．
日本の為に出来る事．．．
とりあえず、集めてみます。

Mexican-charity.
We employ a Mexican guy for dish wash and delivery
at the restaurant I work. Another Mexican guy used to
work here, but they both can't speak English so much
even though they have lived in NY more than 5 years.
In fact, many Mexicans are employed as a dishwasher or
a cleaning person at a lot of restaurants in NY. In the most of case,
they are illegal for staying here in the US, so they can't gain
the average amount of wage. I didn't think about it seriously
before we hire the Mexicans...
I think they are limited places they can work, positions, and even
environment because of their situations. So that, they live only
around Mexican community, then they don't need to speak English.
Actually, if you can speak fluent Spanish, you are not going to be in
trouble in NY.
But, it's definitely hard to communicate with other foreigners like us.
Now, I started to communicate with the Mexican guy in Spanish through
the translator application for ipod touch.
Then I figured out that he is 23 years old and married, and he has a
daughter.
I found out that he works for his family...
Even though he is 5 years younger than me...
Today, we were talking about charity for Japan while we were working.
One of my co-worker who speaks Spanish translated it to him.
Then, he contributed $20 with smile...
I was so impressed with that.
Do you know his hourly wage?
Less than my half.
I'm such a small person...
I have to do something!!
僕が働いているレストランではメキシコ人を皿洗いと配達要員として雇って
います。違うメキシカンを前にも雇っていたんすが、どちらも５年以上NYに
いるにも関わらず、英語が殆どしゃべれません。
実際、たくさんのメキシカンがNY中のレストランで皿洗いや掃除要員として
雇われていますが、ほとんどのケースで彼らは不法滞在だそうです。
だから、彼らは平均賃金なんてもらえないんです。レストランは人件費が
かからないメキシコ人を使うんです。僕は彼らを雇うまで、そんな事深く考えた
事もありませんでした。
彼らは、そういった状況下で、働ける場所、ポジション、更には環境までも
制限されてしまっているんです。
それによって、彼らはメキシコ人のコミュニティで生活し、英語を話す必要が
なくなるんです。
事実、NYではスペイン語がしゃべれれば、英語が全くしゃべれなくてもほとんど
困りません。でも、当然僕たちみたいな外国人とコミュニケーションを取るのは
相当難しいですね。
なので、今僕はそのメキシカンスタッフとipodの翻訳アプリを使ってスペイン語の
会話をしています。
そこで、彼は２３歳でもう結婚もして娘がいて、その家族の為に働いていると知りました。
僕より５歳も年下なのに。。。
そして、今日、日本へのチャリティの話をしながら、横でスペイン語がしゃべれる
スタッフがそのメキシコ人に通訳．．．すると彼は笑顔でポケットから＄２０を出して
募金したんです。
彼の時給いくらかわかります？
僕の半分以下です。
驚きました。涙が出そうでした。
僕はなんてちっぽけなんだ。。。
何か行動しないと！
