ハーバード、スタンフォード、シカゴはTOEFLが必須ではない。全てのアメリカの名門大学は徐々にTOEFLスコア提出をオプショナルにするだろう。SATやATCはコロナが始まって以来、どんどんオプショナルの大学が増えていて、そのままオプショナルが定着しそうな勢いだ。
ハーバード、スタンフォード、シカゴ大学は英語能力が不要だと言っているわけではない。英語検定試験のスコアは要らないと言っているのである。
東大理系を目指す高校生は、この点に注目すべきだ。
東大は理系学部で勉強したいと思っている高校生にHarper's Magazineの成人向けの愚劣な記事を読ませるようなことを平然とやる。東大はガバナンスが機能していない、とんでもない大学だ。文系左翼教員がのさばっているのだろう。東大は「国際卓越研究大学」の初の選考で選に漏れたが、入試問題の英語が余りに愚劣なことにさすがの文科省もキレたのだろう。
ハーバードやスタンフォード、シカゴなどの一部のトップ大学は「英語でサイエンスを勉強できる能力があればいい」と言っているのだ。ところが、理系を目指す高校生が東大を目指すと「愚劣極まりない文系英語」を強要されるのである。
優秀な理系高校生が東大だけでなく日本の大学全てを避けてアメリカのトップ大学を目指せば、日本の劣悪な英語教育に足を引っ張られなくて済むのである。
First-year and transfer applicants are not required to take an English proficiency exam, but you may submit scores if you wish to do so.
Are English proficiency exams required?
No, we do not require any English proficiency exams. While these exams (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, etc.) are useful in helping us determine our applicants’ English proficiency, you may feel your fluency will be clear in other aspects of your application. We have no preferred proficiency exam. Generally, we receive English proficiency exam results from applicants whose native language is not English and/or the primary language of instruction at their secondary school is not English. Please note that fluency in English is a prerequisite for admission to Stanford.
The University of Chicago only admits students who have demonstrated a superior level of English language competence. Students are invited to submit scores from any English proficiency examination they believe represents their English language ability. If you feel as though mastery of the English language is already represented throughout your application, you are not required to submit formal exam scores.
Students who choose to submit English proficiency scores may share either official or self-reported scores. Students sharing self-reported scores will not be required to submit official score reports unless they are admitted and choose to enroll.
UChicago does not offer an ESL program for admitted students.
English proficiency tests are optional for all international students; we will review your scores if you choose to include them with your application. You may submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Duolingo English Test (DET), or Cambridge English Assessment (CEA).

If you are a non-native English speaker or if you are not currently studying in an English-medium curriculum, we recommend but do not require that you take an English proficiency test. If you take the test more than once, we will use your highest score, and we do not have any preference among English proficiency tests.
