Times Higher Educationの世界大学ランキングで100位以内の日本の大学は東大と京大だけだ。
日本の受験システムだと東大、京大に入れない場合、大多数が世界ランキングが600位にも届かない私立大学に入ってしまうことになる。
東大、京大に入れない者が社会では圧倒的多数派なので、世界ランキングが600位に届かない私立大学を「名門大学」だということにしても反対する者は現れない。
日本人だけの間では、それで済んでいたが、人材のグローバル化が進展するにつれ、世界ランキングが600位に満たない大学を名門大学だとは言えなくなってきた。
アメリカにはTimes Higher Educationの世界大学ランキングで100位以内の大学が36もある。世界大学ランキングが100位以内の大学に進学するという目標を達成したいならアメリカの大学を目指すのが有利だ。
日本の高校からTimes Higher Educationの世界大学ランキングで100位以内アメリカの大学に応募して合格できるのか？
アメリカの名門大学には日本の開成や灘などのトップレベルの高校からも相当数が応募しているようだ。しかし、どういう訳か、なかなか合格者が増えない。
その最大の原因は英語力が高校３年の10月までにTOEFL iBT100のレベルに達しないからだ・・・・と断言して良いだろう。即ち、国内の学校の英語の授業がTOEFLに対応していないのである。授業でやっていることがピントがずれているし質が悪い。私見では高校生が使っている英語教科書の英文はアメリカの８歳レベルだと思う。
日本の富裕層は中学受験をしない覚悟を持つべきだと思う。8歳からイギリスの私立全寮制小学校に入学するのが妥当なのだ。
下記に8歳レベルの理科の教科書の文章を抜粋したので読んでみていただきたい。高校生なら辞書なしで３０秒以内で読めるべきだ。万一読めなかったら勉強方法が根本的に間違っているである。
赤字のfeetの意味がさっと頭に浮かぶだろうか？
さっと浮かぶ人ならToo bad your caring comes at a price.の意味も瞬時に理解できるはずだしmuchの品詞はadverbだと直ぐに分かるだろう。さらにはat a priceとはinvolving something unpleasantという意味だと直感でわかるだろうし親切な辞書ならome at a priceはidiomでTo have a negative or unpleasant consequence due to some action.と書いてあることを発見するだろう。

もっとも、アメリカの大学の学費は年間7万ドルほどかかるから中低所得層には、そんなことはどうでも良いことだろう。だがアメリカの大学の費用を負担する能力が備わっている高所得層にとっては重大なことなのだ。富裕層の小中高生は学校の英語の授業を受けていてはいけないのである。
