On 5th June 1968 as Robert Francis Kennedy was leaving a campaign address to his supporters he was assassinated, Andy Williams was preparing to meet up with his friend at a club when he saw the aftermath of the shooting on tv. Ethel Kennedy, Bobby's widow asked Andy to sing at the funeral. Battle Hymn Of The Republic, one of Bobby's favourites and Ave Maria were recorded at the service and released to benefit a Robert Kennedy memorial.(via OldiesAl)
《追記》ロバート・フランシス・ケネディ元米連邦上院議員（元米司法長官）が凶弾に倒れ、NYでの葬儀がセント・パトリック・カセドラルで執り行われ、その模様を私は日本のTVでモニターした。アンディ・ウイリアムスはお別れにこの「リパブリック讃歌」を歌唱した。私は後に、1990年秋に訪米した際にアーリントン墓地にケネディ大統領兄弟の墓所を訪ね、NYの同カセドラルで祈りを捧げた。
