On the evening of January 3, I turned on NHK just to pass the time. A program called "The Spirit of Koizumi Yakumo" was on. In the show, Tommy Bastow, who plays the main character in the Morning drama "Bakebake," visits places connected to Lafcadio Hearn.
3日の夕方、時間つぶしにNHKを付けたら「小泉八雲のおもかげ」と題する番組をやってた。朝ドラ『ばけばけ』の主人公を演じるトミー・バストウが小泉八雲にまつわる場所を訪れる番組。

The story I just finished reading, based on Celtic mythology, is about a girl who goes on a journey to find her cousin who was taken away by fairies. What a perfect match!

For Irish people, fairies are like neighbors. Fairies live very close, right next to them. Lafcadio Hearn grew up in that kind of culture. No wonder he loved Japanese yokai.

Yokai are not as beautiful or delicate as fairies, but they are neighbors from another world, living very close to us, Japanese.
「妖怪」は「妖精」のように美しく可憐ではないけれど、まぎれもなく私たち日本人のすぐそばにいる異世界の「隣人」なんだね。
I don't watch morning dramas, but maybe I'll give “Bakebake” a try.
