Snow Festival in Tookamachi (Yukimatsuri) | 週刊ELMO~Love Letter from CANADA~

週刊ELMO~Love Letter from CANADA~

ELMOとGママがカナダへ留学中。埼玉に取り残されたKパパ。3人の近況をお伝えしようと思います。

On the way to snow festival. K was so afraid to drive because of the possibility of avalanche. The road goes through the mountains and both sides were lined by snow walls. We didn't know what was ahead of us. Chinese say "To know the road ahead, ask those coming back". The scary part was we didn't see anybody coming back.

Main Statue of the Festival. It was huge. I was amazed by artist's attention to details. There was a rock concert at night, but we didn't stay.

What I loved most about this Festival was that everybody tried to contribute to create this special Festival mood. We could see these small snow statues made by ordinary people in front of houses and small shops, even sidewalks were lined by them. I see now what africans mean when they say "If you think you're too small to make a difference, try to sleep in a closed room with a mosquito".

As soon as we entered this gate, we were offered hot sake. I couldn't resist this one, needed anesthesia to endure the pain of lecturing K on how to drive safely in the harsh northern climate. Even though I do not have a driving lisence, but, I must add I've got PhD on HIM. Hehehe! Sorry, darling, just accidental slip of the tongue. I know, I know what you think "The slip of the tongue is never wholly accidental".

This Statue received a special prize from the mayor of the city.
