お化け（Obake） / Ghost

Halloween is coming soon. What are you scared of the most? As a matter of fact, I am scared of ghost. I have never seen a ghost, but I have heard ghost stories and seen ghost movies. I can't stand it.

I can't sleep alone at night if I start thinking what would I do if a ghost should come? Also what would I do if a ghost would appear behind me when I am washing my hair in the shower, so I have to wash my hair in hurry every day.

I've heard that in foreign countries, they are not scared of ghosts so much, also they are more scared of Jason than ghost.

I found why I am so scared of ghosts. Iam scred of ghosts because my mother usually told ghost stories when I did mischief in my childhood. "If you do mischief , a ghost should come!"

実は、私はお化けが怖いんです。

一度もお化けを見たことはありませんが、お化けの話しや映画は耐えられません。

シャワーで髪を洗っている時に背後にお化けがいたらどうしよう、と思い毎日急いで髪を洗っています。

外国ではあまりお化けを怖がらないようですね。お化けよりもジェイソンの方が怖いと聞いたことがあります。

どうしてこんなに怖がりになったか考えてみると・・・、子供の頃、いたずらをすると母がいつもこう言って私を叱っていました。　

”悪いことをしたら、お化けがでてくるよ”　と。

ボランティア / Volunteer

I joined the volunteer circle at area. It was fun and meaningful but I have a question for spirit of volunteerism in Japan.

I was surprised! Only old people join the circle. There are old tradition and rules, so I think for the people, joining the circle for the first time, the atmosphere doesn't feel enjoyable and relaxing. I think it might be a reason that why the spirit of volunteerism is not passed on to young generations in Japan. In other countries, it seems that the volunteer spirit grows naturally from childhood as it is considered a part of their life.

I hope anyone can become a volunteer at anytime and feel free to enjoy themselves in Japan.

I want to research the subject of volunteers.

地域のボランティアサークルに参加してきました。

とても楽しくて有意義だったのですが、日本のボランティア精神に疑問を感じてしまいました。

参加者は高齢の方ばかり！古いしきたりやルールがあって、初めての人が自由に寛いだ感じで参加できない雰囲気がありました。そういうことが、日本のボランティアの精神が若い世代にうまく受け継がれない理由なのかもしれません。

海外ではボランティアは生活の一部のように考えられていて子供の頃から自然にボランティア精神が芽生えるているように思います。

楽しく気軽にいつでも誰でも参加できるボランティアが日本にもあれば良いのにな。

ボランティアについて研究したくなりました。

秋 (Aki) / Autumn

【Appetite （Syokuyoku no aki）】

The Japanese autumn is celebrated with many delicious foods. There is also a word for popular fall foods, which is "Aki no mikaku" . They include chestnuts, pine mushroom, pike mackerel, persimmons, Japanese pears and so on. I would have a lot of fall foods.

This is my partner's written version in English. It is very helpful to hear the Cinderella story.

Cinderella Story

Once Upon a time, there lived a sweet little girl called Ella. Her mother had died when she was a child and soon her father too died. She lived with her mean step mother and her two proud step sisters. They made Ella do all the house work.

“Clean the chimneys!! Dust the cupboards!! Iron my clothes!! “They cried.

The young girl was always covered in sot and dust hence she was called Cinderella.

One day the prince invited all the girls in the kingdom for a ball in the castle. Everyone, including the two step sisters, were very excited. Cinderella too wanted to go to the ball but her sisters laughed at her.

“Stay at home and scrub the floors!!” screamed her step mother.

The day of the ball finally came. Her step mother and step sisters left Cinderella alone at home. She was so disappointed that she began to cry. Suddenly, she saw a shimmering light in the room. A woman with a kind smile and a wand stood in front of her.

“Who are you?” asked Cinderella surprised.

The woman replied, “I’m your fairy godmother. I’ll help you go to the ball. Now, do stop crying.”

“But I have nothing to wear!” sobbed Cinderella. “I can’t go to the ball.”

The fairy godmother smiled. She touched a pumpkin and turned it into a grand carriage. With a wave of her wand, she changed six mice into six magnificent horses to pull the carriage, and another mouse into a footman. Finally, she changed Cinderella’s rags into a beautiful dress.

“There. Now you look like a princess” she said to Cinderella. “But remember, you should come back home before twelve o’clock, for then, the spell will be broken.”

Cinderella replied, “I won’t forget. Thank you so much.” And she went to the castle.


Cinderella was the prettiest girl at the ball. Her step sisters didn’t even recognize her. All the other girls were very jealous because the prince danced with her the whole night. Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball, however, the moment she heard the clock strike twelve, she remembered the fairy godmother’s words and ran away. In a hurry, she left one glass slipper on the castle steps.

Now, the prince had fallen in love with her and wanted to find her.

He said to his men, “Go to every house in the land. Find the girl whose foot fits into the glass slipper. She will be the one I marry.”

The king’s men reached Cinderella’s house. The two step sisters tried hard to get their big feet to fit into the slipper, but in wean. Finally, Cinderella peeped out and said, “May I try as well?”

To everyone’s surprise, Cinderella’s foot fit perfectly into the glass slipper.

The prince and Cinderella were soon married in a grand ceremony. The wicked sisters never bothered her again.

昔むかし、あるとことにエラというかわいい若い女の子が住んでいました。彼女の子供のころにお母さんが亡くなり、その後すぐにお父さんも亡くなりました。彼女は意地悪な継母とプライドの高い二人の義理の姉と住んでいました。彼女たちはエラにすべての家事をさせました。

”煙突を掃除しなさい!!　戸棚のホコリ！!　私の服をアイロンかけて!!”と用事を言いつけました。

若い女の子はいつもいつも灰まみれの仕事をさせられていたので、シンデレラと呼ばれるようになりました。

ある日、王子様がお城の舞踏会にすべての少女を招待しました。義理の姉たちもそうですが、招待された少女たちはみなとても興奮していました。シンデレラも舞踏会に行きたかったのですが、姉たちは彼女を笑いました。

”家にいて床を磨いていなさい”と、継母は叫びました。

舞踏会の日がとうとうやってきました。継母と義理の姉たちはシンデレラをひとり家において行きました。彼女はとても失望して泣き始めました。突然、部屋の中に輝く光が差し込むのを見ました。シンデレラの前には優しく微笑んで杖を持った女性が立っていました。

”あなたは誰？”シンデレラは驚いて尋ねました。

”あなたを助けに来た魔法使いよ。あなたが舞踏会に行くお手伝いをしにきました。だから泣くのはやおよしなさい”と魔法使いは答えました。

”でも、着て行く服がないの！”と、シンデレラはすすり泣きました。”舞踏会には行けないわ”

魔法使いは微笑みました。彼女がかぼちゃに触わり、大きな馬車に変えました。彼女は杖を波打つように振ると、６匹のネズミが馬車をひく素晴らしい６頭の馬に、別のネズミは召使いに変わりました。最後にシンデレラの汚れた服を素敵なドレスに変えました。

”お姫様のようだわ”と魔法使いがシンデレラに言いました。”でも、覚えておきなさい。12時までには家に帰りなさい。魔法が解けてしまいます”

シンデレラは、”忘れないわ。本当にありがとう”と答え、彼女はお城に行きました。

シンデレラは舞踏会一かわいい女の子でした。義理の姉たちはシンデレラだと全く気がついていません。王子様は一晩中シンデレラと踊っていたので、他の少女たちは皆シンデレラをねたんでいました。シンデレラは舞踏会でとてもすばらしい時間を過ごしましたが、しばらくして時計が１２時の音を知らせるのを聞いて、シンデレラは魔法使いが言った言葉を思い出し走ってその場から逃げ出しました。あまりにも急いでいたので、シンデレラはお城の階段にガラスの靴を置いていってしまいました。今や王子様はシンデレラに恋をし、彼女を見つけたくなりました。

王子様は家来に”この国のすべての家に行ってガラスの靴がぴったり合う少女を探して来なさい！私はその少女と結婚する”と命令しました。

家来たちはシンデレラの家に着きました。ふたりの義理の姉たちは大きな足を必死にガラスの靴に入れましたが、もはや無駄なことでした。最後にシンデレラが”私が履いてみてもいいですか？”と言いました。

シンデレラの足がガラスの靴にぴったりで、みんなとても驚きました。

王子様とシンデレラはそれからすぐに素晴らしい結婚式を挙げました。意地悪な姉たちは二度とシンデレラをいじめることはありませんでした。

シンデレラ(1) / Cinderella (1)

I think the Cinderella story is one of most yearning stories for girls. In my childhood, I had read the Cinderella story again and again. Also I had a secret yearning for Cinderella and the wonderful Prince to be marrid

I found the English version movie of Cinderella on YouTube. I have known this story, so I could understand what he was saying most of this story, but I didn't catch many of the words. I told my Language Exchange partner, and he had the goodness to write what the movie said. I was impressed because I know it is very hard work to write this long story

I thought the Cinderella name equaled a princess name.
Do you know why this princess was called Cinderella?

Cinderella's real name is "Ella". She was always ordered to work and because or that she was covered with cinder. It seems that Cinder + Ella became Cinderella

My partner said this movie is British English version.
I found some different points that would not be said in the American version. An example of this would be the way the word "too" is used in the story instead of using the word "also."

シンデレラは女の子の憧れの物語の１つではないでしょうか。
子供の頃、何度もシンデレラの絵本を読んでいました。そしてシンデレラと素敵な王子様の結婚に憧れていました

YouTube　で英語バージョンのシンデレラ物語を見つけました。
ストーリーを知っているので、だいたい何を言っているか分かるけれど聞き取れない言葉がたくさんありました。Language Exchangeパートナーに話してみると、全部書き出してくれました。長文でとても大変なことなのに、感動です


私は　シンデレラ　＝　お姫様の名前　と思っていました。
なぜ　”シンデレラ”という名前がついたかご存じでしょうか？

シンデレラの本名は”エラ（Ella）”
いつも灰（Cinder）まみれの仕事をさせられていたので、
Cinder　＋　Ella　で　Cinderella　となったのだそうです

この動画はイギリス英語バージョンだそうですよ。
"too"をつける位置など少しアメリカ英語と違う箇所があるかな、と思いました。
