I found the program "Japanorama" on BBC in UK which introduce Japanese culture. There are so many misunderstandings. Could such program really be broadcasted???
I hesitated whether I should post this youtubu because the content includes extreme scenes. So if you don't want to see this, I suggest you don't watch this program. It is very sad that everyone seemsto think all Japanese people are like that.

The other day, My Language Exchange partner said she was surprised that Japanese shop stuff was so polite and attentive (like, asking if they want anything, or need any help, more than once). It seems that she felt really embarrassed .
Japanese people tend to decide whether to buy something by the attitude of the shop stuff. The shop value is determined by whether the store can provide polite service. Starbacks coffee and McDonal's stuff also so polite and attentive. Especially the exclusive shops have to deal with excellent service.
When I worked for a company, we actually had lessons on how to bow. (For example, what angle to bow at and so on.)
It is important that the shop stuff has polite attitude with smile to the custmer but I don't like persistent shop staff (like, asking if they want anything, or need any help, more than once), when I look for clothes at shop. Sometimes I want to be left alone.

I am not good at talking at beginning and end of the conversation, also Iam not good at giving responses. I don't know a sensible phrase, so I always say the same words.
I think I give the impression of a sudden.
Especially I always say the same greeting, I think it's a borning phrases by myself. I'm heartily tired of it.
" Hi ! How are you? " " I'm fine thank you, and you? "
In fact, I know just 1 phrase. Sometimes, I just change "fine " to "bad " or "so so".
Recently, I heard these words. " It's been a while " It means I haven't seen you in a while.
In addition, "Long time, no see! " Also means "in a while. "
The polite version of...
"It has been a while. How have you been?"
"I haven't seen you for quite a while. How have you been?"

"What's new?" "What's up?" "What are you up to?"

It is said that Japanese culture is "Shame culture", American and Europe culture is "Guilty culture".
Shame cluture has a thought that they don't cause other people trouble as shameful.
Guilty culture is focused on the relationship between God and people and also I think it is a culture of conscience and religious precepts.
To be brief "Shame culture" is the culture when people worry about the public eye.
"Guilty culture" is the culture when people worry about God's eye. Things that are important to the "Shame culture" are the public eye, good aspects are concern, humility, spirit of cooperation, this is the virtue of the Japanese. On the other hand, too much to worry under the public eye, like "If everyone crosses against the red light, then there's nothing to be afraid of ", if everyone knew it was bad why would they do it? The lack of autonomy leads people to do things that everyone else decides.
Japanese people are said to be shy , I think that the "Shame Culture" might be involved in this.
