Coincidentally, I’m carrying on the theme of time travel with this week’s blog entry.

Last week I finished reading Stephen King’s 2016 novel, “11/22/63”. This is the date that US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

Stephen King’s stories usually fall under the ‘horror/fantasy’ category although this one is considered to be Sci/Fi and Alternate History.

Simply put the story is about a time traveller who attempts to stop the assassination of JFK. Of course, things are never that simple and the time traveller (who happens to be an English teacher!) soon begins to discover the ‘rules’ of time travel.

I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to spoil the story (which is very good, by the way!), but I will say that the book paints a very detailed life of America in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s which some of you may find interesting.

Recently, I browsed my streaming service for something slightly different from action-driven, adrenaline-inducing blockbusters that seem to dominate cinema nowadays. Whenever you do your search you probably go by star-ratings, reviews or interesting titles. So, using these criteria I stumbled upon some films that caught my interest and actually felt like time well spent.

The two titles I found are somehow similar to each other and yet offer a different take on the subject of time and the consequences of trying to break its rules.

The first one, Time Traveller’s Wife, is a story of a reluctant time traveller that has a very wearisome task of living in different time frames while trying to hold on to his family life. The protagonist doesn’t choose the time of travel, he doesn’t choose the destination and he doesn’t get to keep his clothes on on arrival!

The other one, The Age of Adaline, featuring Harrison Ford, holds a secret remedy to aging! It’s a tale of two people who used to be close and whose ways part due to a surprising twist in one of their natural life cycles.

Both films talk about how tricky it can be to live in a world that is younger or older than the one you were born into. Exciting as it sounds meddling with time has some serious outcomes!

If you feel like watching a mystery movie check them out!

And the burger wasn't bad either!

This burger and fries was from The City Bakery in Tokyu Plaza in Hibiya. It was a bit pricey so I won't be giving up my McDonald's anytime soon, but I'll definitely head back there to check out the rest of the menu sometime ..

I'm not very adventurous when it comes to eating out. What I mean is, that once I find a satisfactory place to eat, then I will always  eat at that place and will rarely bother looking for others. I will always eat at the same kebab shop instead of trying others, for example. (Speaking of which, I think tomorrow is kebab day!)

However, after hearing the recommendation of this bakery / cafe from one of our trusted students, I put on my big-boy pants and ventured into unknown territory. The result is I've discovered a new place to eat at. Hooray!

Of course, I ended up sitting at the customary wobbly table that every cafe seems to own so I spilled my coffee a little, but overall I can also recommend this place.

We’ve all been through this, busy schedules, multitasking, mounting pressures and lack of time to pause and take a deep breath. Today’s world is in turmoil with enough bad news to constantly occupy your mind. It’s time for a detox. One fine morning during my jogging routine, I got as far as Zempukuji Park to find myself in a calm, resting place. This year’s cherry blossom has largely disappeared but there was no escaping the fact that nature was very much awake. It didn’t take me long to be able to refresh and gather my strength for the rest of the day. I even spotted a new curious-looking, modern-style cafe called Nido, which overlooked the park and looked like a perfect place for a rejuvenating stop with a beverage and a tasty cake. It’s definitely on my list of places to visit now. It could be on yours if you ever in the area? Or you could discover a place in your neighbourhood?
