As we’re nearing another Christmas season we see more and more Xmas-labelled products leading us into the festive mood. Last week I stopped by local Starbucks to try the new seasonal brews blessed by Santa. The one that got my attention was the Espresso Roast, or dark roast in Christmas apparel. If you like coffee with a rich taste but without sour undertones, this one’s for you. If, however, you prefer lemon hints in your coffee similar to Starbucks daily brews like Pike or House Blend, the Blond Roast is a better option. From my experience of a coffeeholic, dark roasts are quite rare on Starbucks menu so if you happen to see Espresso Roast and just want a cup of coffee why not spend the same money on something tasty and more unique?

Permacrisis!

Yes, what does it mean?

It's defined as an extended period of instability and insecurity.

The word has seen increasing usage due to the ongoing crises in the UK. And after brexit, a pandemic, a dead queen, about 4-5 prime ministers including numerous scandals, and numerous strikes due to an ongoing cost-of-living crisis I can see why the word is becoming popular again ... びっくり

Collins Dictionary said, "it sums up quite succinctly just how truly awful 2022 has been for so many people".

Let's hope 2023 is a bit better!

Do you like sweet potatoes? There’s no better time to have a taste of this healthy veggie than the autumn season. You can now find potato flavored snacks in your nearby shops and markets, including crisps, ice-cream, biscuits, cakes and of course freshly baked sold directly from hot ovens.

But how about baking them yourself? Vegetable allotments around Tokyo are ready for potato gourmets and many growers are keen to sell their harvest to them at a bargain. If you like fresh air and you don’t shy away from digging in the garden, have some fun at one of potato hunting spots! Getting them ready for baking is easy and they make a great seasonal treat with a bit of butter. Yum!

I know it's early for the rest of you, but I start planning for Christmas around the summer time.

And just in from the UK are these!

These are Christmas crackers! Just pull on the end of one while another person pulls on the other end and, with a crack of gunpowder,  they rip open ! Inside are usually two paper party hats, a small gift, and sometimes a really bad joke written on a slip of paper!

Christmas crackers were invented in the mid-1800s by a baker named Tom Smith who was inspired after seeing French bon-bon sweets which were wrapped in a twist of tissue paper.

They don't seem to be that common outside of the UK, but I can't imagine Christmas without them  . or after the main course of Christmas dinner.

It's a shame they are not more popular around the world as they add a little extra fun to Christmas!

I hope you get to pull one some day burst of laughter
